Weight Loss

Well, I just had my surgery almost 3 weeks ago and I have lost about 25 lbs (not in the places I want) and I am very happy about that.  But my question is, by me not being able to excercise for another 3 weeks, will I still lose weight at about the same rate.  I mean I am walking but that is all that I was advised that i can do.  Is there anyone out there that can eaze my mind?

Thank You,
Keysha

Keysha,

25 lbs in 3 weeks is amazing and congrats to you.  Remember that each person looses at a different pace.   Much depends on age, how much you have to loose and metabolisim and you'll go crazy if you try to compare to others.  Please remember that this is a life change and you will loose and settle into sort of a rythem of weight loss.  I tend to loose it slow, about an average of 3 lbs per week and I am 4 1/2 months out.  But hey, a loss is a loss and I am in no hurry, it will come of as it should.  It's also really important to take your measurements, because even if you stall at a weight loss, I will be willing to bet you're loosing inches.  Fitday is a great software program to track your weight, food intake and measurements.  It's free for the basic program and very reasonable for the enhanced version, which allows you to run reports for your Dr too.

Walking is one of the best exercises you can do, so it's great that you are doing that.

Hang in there, relax and enjoy this wonderful journey of self devotion, self appreciation and a love of you!  Please know we're all here for you and just an e-mail away!

Hugs,
Barb

Hi Keysha!  Welcome to the Loser's Bench and congratulations on your WLS!  All I do is walk...up to 3 mi a day now...and being almost 10 weeks out, I have lost 32lbs since surgery.  I've stalled a couple of times but was ok with it as I measured the ole bod at the time and realized I was losing the inches...don't want a whole lot of excess skin if I can help it. LOL  You are doing wonderful!  Just be sure to get your vitamins, water and protein in the best you can....the rest will take care of itself ^_^

Lisa,

Please try not to get discouraged, plateau's are normal.  Make sure you take those measurements and you'll be surprised because you are loosing inches just not lbs.  That will change though and it will bust loose again.  Make sure you are getting all your protein in and are eating enough and getting in your liquids too.  Journal, journal, journal, it's a must for me, it keeps me honest with myself.

Lots of  warm hugs coming your way.

Hi Iny
You are doing fabulous losing 25 lbs in 3 weeks.  You go girl!  Continue to walk and be of good courage.

I found two marvelous tools to aid you in your inch and weight loss while you walk and later when you exercise at the gym.  Get you a solar belt to wrap around your waist and solar shorts to put on instead of jogging pants.  You can get them at Walmart in the exercise dept. for under $15.00.  It even helps to reduce your cellulite too!

Since my surgery, March 27th, I have lost 43 lbs, and 7 plus inches all over my body.  I am now down 3 dress sizes and feeling fabulous.  TRUST ME THESE TOOLS WORK I AM LIVING PROOF!

All the best on your weight loss success!

Keysha,
I had Open RNY revision surgery on 4/8/09 and am down 31 lbs. so far.  The first 3 weeks I lost at an extraordinary rate (I believe because I was basically on a liquid diet).  The last couple of weeks have been slower.  I, too, am walking.  In fact today I walked 3 miles, and it felt good too.  When I complained to my nutritionist I wasn't losing weight at the same accelerated rate as in the first few weeks, she had to bring me back to reality by telling me that I had already lost 1/3 of the weight the doctor expected in just a little more than a month.  This is a lifestyle change (I have to keep reminding myself of this).  For me, I'm going to start documenting my measurements as well as my weight, so if there is not a radical change in one area there may be inches lost.  Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged.
