Is it normal to feel so tight in the stomach area?
Is it normal for some of the incisions to sting?
How can I tell if I am hungry or just hurting?
I get this some kind of sensation in the back of my throat that is causing me to  cough a lot, should I be worried.
I worry about eating anything, I tried Jell-O and Popsicles but I worry I should even thought I was told I could, am I worrying to much?
Does everyone make the 64 oz water requirement?
Do Hickup suppose to hurt this bad?

I feel a little confused and worried all the time......

I had surgery the same day you did and I am feeling all the same!!!  My tummy is soo tight!  I tried sugar free popsiscles and I did about half of one and it helped me.  I've been told by my husband whos 2 yrs post op that the cold helped with the swelling.  Hickups are the worst!!  However I do have a trick that helps stop them immediately.  Drink a sip of water tip your head all the way back and swallow as your head is back.  Then when you bring your head forward you should be able to burp...releasing the air that was trapped causing the hicciup.   I have not been able to get down 64 ozs of water yet!!  I'm working on just getting 12 ozs of protein shake down.  I guess the key is to sip sip sip!!  Good luck and I'm right here with you.

Greetings,

Please relax and remember that you just had major surgery and yes, all those things are very normal.  Isn't it great to know your normal!  LOL

You are not going to be able to down 64 oz of anything for a while.  I am 4.5 mos out and I can now drink about that much a day!

When I was post-op, I coughed a lot even coughing up blood and mucus, normal, due to the tube they inserted during surgery.

Follow your surgeon's instructions for your phase 2 or 1st week post op foods and you are going to do just fine.  We're all here for you and we've all been there before, so just take a deep breath and relax.

I found it more comfortable to sleep in a recliner for the 1st 4 days home because my stomach was so tight.  As far as your incisions, watch for redness that is excessive or becomes oozy or excessively swollen and if that happens call you surgeon.

You are likely not too hungry this soon.  I found it very helpful to "eat" on the even hours and drink on the odd hours and kept to a schedule, but each surgeon is different so please follow their instructions.  I did quite a big of blogging and you might find that helpful.

Please know we're only an e-mail or call away.  If you want my cell phone number send me a PM and I will be happy to give that to you.

Hang in there, it's going to be a wonderful journey and you're gonna do great.

Hugs,
Barb

Hi...

I also had Doctor Mueller...surgery 5 years ago. Maintaining my Weigtloss and doing great.

Let see if I can answer your questions.

Normal to feel tight...yes

normal for stinging around incision yes...its the body healing around incision. In my case, I did have a stitch let loose, which opened the incision a little...it just took a little longer to heal

Hungry or Hurt...Hungry shouldn't hurt.

Feeling in back of throat could be residual effect of the tube they put down your throat during surgery.

Worry about eatting?....don't. The doctors won't tell you to eat something...if they don't know your body can handle it.

Water. No....not everyone makes it...but the goal is to try to get in as much fluid as you can because dehydration can be life threatening.

Hickups...yeah...they hurt a little a first....but it will get better. try holding a pillow to your tummy during them.

Confusion and fear are normal.....but will disappear over time.

you can email me if you want to talk...
