Hi all,

I am in the process of changing careers and I want to go back to school for x-ray/mammogram technician here in Southern California. Can anyone recommend a good school for this type of career? Any help is appreciated. I am kind of at a loss on how to get started. Thanks!

I would visit your local community (Junior) college to start.  Get some input from the career center there.

I agree with Brian.  Not only can you get career counseling at your local JC, they will likely have or be able to refer you to a local JC program.  Good luck in your endeavor!

I spoke with a medical technician at a children's hospital and he says going to a California Community College is the best bargain in the world when it comes to getting an x-ray technician's certificate.  I don't know Southern California's Community Colleges as well, but as the 2 previous people *****plied to you said, schedule an appointment with a school counselor.  Thanks to California's economic crisis though, scheduling the appointment NOW is important. I believe those programs will start having a waiting list soon because of the economy.

In Orange County, there are 2 schools that have Radiologic Technician programs - Cypress College and Orange Coast College. Both are Associate - Science degrees, and have general education coursework that needs to be finished before you can apply to the actual program.

Hope this helps!

Also take a look at the local ROP programs. There are tons of them out there and a little easier to get into. The JC's are a great alternative but some have an extreme waiting / lotto system that could hamper getting in the program. Just be cautious of the private schools. Some are very expensive and dont promise a thing to you.

Have a great day.......Rick
