Hi all!
I had surgery on 5-26-09. I'm not sure what is normal for the body to feel like. Such as my ribs hurt. is this normal? Would anyone be willing to share their stories with us newbies?
Thanks, Kathleen

I wouldn't say it's your ribs, it's most likely the incision/s that are sore.  Bending over was uncomfortable, as well as stretching of the torso.  It all depends  on your threshhold of pain.   The Dr should have prescribed some sort of liquid pain medication for you.  Use it if you need it, that's what it's for.  You'll be sore for close to a week, then all should go back to normal (except your eating habits of course).  The only thing that didn't go back to normal for me right away was sleeping.  I can't sleep on my back, so it took me about 3 weeks until I was able to sleep on my stomach/side again, and boy did I miss it.

Hi Kathleen,
You had surgery on my birthday so you should have no problems.  :o)

For the time being, I agree with Javi. Each person is unique and their experiences are different. However, if the pain continues let your surgeon know as you want to make sure that everything is okay. It is also good to keep a journal of what you are eating/drinking and what you are experiencing such as pain, constipation and etc.  Hope this helps.

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Thanks. The doc did give me meds but I'm juust trying to figure out what is normal pain and what is "call the dr pain". Know what I mean? I am on day 8 so things should be getting back to life as usual. How long did you have to wait until you could drive? Did anyone get tired of the protein shakes? I can't stand even the smell of them. My dr had me do the 10 day liquid protein before the surgery so after 18 days as you can imagine I am doen with them. Any suggestions?

I had surgery on 5-18-09 and came home on 5-20-09. I slept mostly the first few days but made sure to get up to walk a little each day and get as much water in as possible. I didn't hurt enough to take any kind of pain medication but I did feel a lot of discomfort. After a few days I was up trying to help with normal house duties such as cooking, folding clothes, just really simple task.

Everyone is different, just do what you can to make yourself comfortable. Good luck on your journey!
