One step closer...kinda

So I have Kaiser SoCal and have been waiting to get into the Options classes. I know that I could have grieved them but I didn't want to. I am looking forward to the classes and what I may learn from them. I also need to buy time to build up my sick leave and vacation time. I want optimum time off after surgery.

So my classes start July 24th and end November 27th I go every other week for 2 classes each day...Yep only 20 classes. They shortened the class to 20 weeks. I am so excited and now starting to get nervous. It is all becoming more real to me now. I hope that I can have surgery at the beginning of next year sometime. I already know that I want to go to Pacific Bariatrics and the roux-en-y, so those are 2 less decisions to make.

I just want to know after the classes were done what else was left to do? I know we need a psych but is that after the classes or during them. Also is the Nut appointment before or during. Thanks for any answers or guidance. Everything is appreciated.

Nathalie :-)

just maintain your ending weight, that's all they really ask for.  The Psych eval, internist, and surgeon visit, are all on the same day.   The psych is pretty easy, I was stressed out, but they just want to make sure you really want this surgery.  The internist just asks you general quesitons about your habits (smoking, drinking) and if you're on a cpap machine, etc.   The surgeon will tell you if you did a good job, and not to gain another pound.

That's all that I rememeber, hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. I am just nervous and excited about the whole process. Did you have to lose 10 % of your starting weight or just not gain anything after starting the classes.

When I did my classes through Kaiser, the Psych was done towards the end of the class. They will order all the needed tests and set your consult with the surgeon at the end. Congrats on your decision to take the classes. I peronally think it is a big mistake not to take the classes as they really do help with the journey.......

Have a great day...........Rick

Thanks for the support. I konw that a lot of people believe the classes dont help and that you dont learn anything that you dont already know. But I have a lot of questions I need answered before anyone cuts me open. Plus I have seen a lot of contradicting advice online and on the forums so I want it straight from the doctors.

On another note how have you been? I hope that it has been a good journey so far for you. Take care and talk to you soon.

I have one class left....Monday! (But, I'm in Colorado Kaiser.)  They arranged the Psych, Physical, Labs, 12 Lead EKG, Chest Xray, Consults....But, I am Appealing for a DS.
If you are getting a band or RNY, they walk you through, but if you will appeal for another procedure, IMO it's best to wait until the classes have at least started.
You do learn a lot, and it gets you mentally prepared. Good luck on your journey.

I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

Yay!!! Only one more class to go, that is so awesome! I am excited for the classes and I am sure they will fly by. I am taking them every other friday and 2 classes at a time.

I am glad that they schedule all of the appointments that we need. I am going to have to start writing down all of the things I have done so far. It is so much to keep track of.

Good luck with the appeal, you will be in my prayers.
