Medications

I feel like an idiot as I had forgotten completely about how to take medications post surgery!!

Do most/some/all of you get your prescriptions done in liquid form, or do you take pills?

I've been fighting this sinus thing with my ears plugged for months now and nothing is helping until someone from here suggested malabsorbsion... and I'm now wondering if this is why the 10 medications the doctors gave me haven't been working!

Today I started crushing my meds, which is always great fun and tasty too!

Thought I'd get some input on this subject since I'm retarded and completely forgot that this is what we were supposed to do...

I also use Walgreens pharmacy and not sure if they do it there or not..

Thanks in advance!

"SINUS thing and 10 meds not working" makes me wonder if it's viral?  Unless specifically directed by your doctor, be careful in crushing meds. Some meds should not be crushed. My presciption for Verapamil (generic for Calaan for high bp) states on it's label "DO NOT CRUSH".  The only meds I got in liquid form were liquid Vicodin for post op pain. Many post ops have "issues" with taking pills, with morbid fears of them getting stuck. I take a liquid vitamin, called Epic Ultra, which eliminates many vitamin supplements with a one ounce liquid dose taken daily. Many tips are on my profile page, in the blogs and profile story. I'm 3 years post op, and good luck on your journey. DAVE

Hi Dave,

I'm also on Zpack or whatever it's called, it's an antibiotic....  No, I have read the bottles and only one of my meds said DO NOT CRUSH so I figured the rest were ok.  Well, so far this weekend, no luck still feel the same.  My ears are still plugged.  So I guess I wait for that referral to the allergist and see what is going on.

I've tried the liquid vitamin and thought I was going to die, it was the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted, lol  Good idea, but not all that tasty!  ;)

If you're referencing the Epic Ultra, dilution with a little water makes it taste better to some post ops. RNY does cause taste buds to change dramatically in some people. Of the hundreds that have sampled it, they prefer the Epic Ultra to any other liquid vitamins they've tried. Most love the taste, either straight or diluted with water. Many other brands have very offensive tastes. DAVE

I take most of my meds in regular pill form since the surgery and have had no problems.  Sometimes I take regular Sudafed to help with ear congestion from my allergies... maybe it might help?  It shouldn't interact with the Z-Pack.  I use the real pseudoephedrine that you have to get from the pharmacy counter but it's pretty helpful.  Hope you feel better soon!

Dave, thanks for the vitamin tip!  I'm going to try some myself because I have yet to find a vitamin that isn't simply rancid.
