Hello,

I am looking for a surgeon that takes Medi/Cal and will perform surgery on me at 542 pounds.  Any help with this subject would be appreciated.

Thank you,

The only place I know of around here that takes Medi/Cal is Stanford. I don't know what other requirements they have though.

You should be looking into the duodenal switch procedure, which has the best chance of giving you the best long term results -- and is, in my opinion, the best and easiest procedure to live with.  The surgeon you want to be talking to is Dr. Keshishian in Delano -- that is 25 miles north of Bakersfield on 99.  A ways away, but he takes Medi-Cal, which the other NorCal DS surgeons do not.  www.dssurgery.com

Sepa, I agree with Diana - come over to the DS forum and learn more about this wls option. The DS (duodenal switch) has the highest percentage excess weight loss of any wls presently available, and the best maintainence of that weight loss. It works well for anyone who qualifies for wls, but is especially valuable for someone with a lot of weight to lose. It also has the best resolution of comorbidities, especially type 2 diabetes.
If you are interested in any articles about the excellent longterm results of the DS in both weight loss and overall health, let me know.

I used private insurance to pay for my surgery, but talking to some people recently who used Medi cal to pay for their surgeries,, not WLS , but other stuff, they said that their family doctors told them what doctors out there accepted Medi Cal, Im wondering if it would be any different with WLS,, I dont see why it wouldnt be any different?

Also , I would think if you called Medi Cal, wouldnt they have a list or something?

Good luck to you!

Marie

You'd think they would, wouldn't you? But they don't. Trying to find someone to take Medi-Cal when I had someone staying with me who was on it last summer was a nightmare.
