constipation advice, please

Hi everyone,

I am starting my 4th week post-op and while it has been smooth-sailing in almost every way, I find I am now dealing with constipation. I had diarrhea for the first two weeks so this is a BIG switch.

I am still limited in fiber intake according to my surgeon (no metamucil or benefiber, etc). I started taking generic colace on Saturday night (2 capsules morning and night), and still nothing. Can I ALSO take mirolax at the same time? What do you think? Any other ideas?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cindy

I've had this problem since day 1 and nothing seems to work for me, I've tried all the above as well.

I've resorted to doing a "Diet Tea" that makes me "go".... At around the 4th day, I feel like I'm going to explode and have a tea and be done with it.  I don't know what else to do, it's awful.

Hopefully someone will come along with some answers for you.  In the meantime, drink LOTS of water and see if that helps you :)

Thanks, Crysti. I may end up looking for the diet tea!

I would take magnesium for it, adjust it to fit your needs.

Darlene,

Thanks for the advice...I may end up using that TOO. Something is going to work or I am going to explode! LOL

Cindy,
Do not take that Cuz you may pooooooooooooooooop for ever. NO seriously you dont want to risk it. I had pts take 1 -2 tbsp magnesium citrate just like Darlene said... Increase you liquids,
You can drizzle a bit of olive il on your veggies. you can also get flax seed oil and put into your protein drinnks.

I was going through the same thing last week (not going as the case may be) I finally ended up using a suppository. I hated doing it but within 20 minutes I was in the bathroom. I used Fleet. It really wasn't as bad as it sounds. Good Luck.

hi Kim in the Valley,

I am thinking I may try the suppository to get a 'clean start' then the other stuff may keep me regular! Thanks for responding!
