My head hunger is still strong!!!

Hi all,

I keep looking at the before and after pictures for inspiration everytime I want to test out my new tummy on foods that will exact revenge on me.  My head hunger is still strong.  I am only 13 days out of my RNY surgery, so I feel like I am in that weird space where I haven't had a ton of weight loss, but I am noticing every craving so much more vividly than I ever did before.  Does this get better as the weight comes off and that becomes more important in our minds than having a quick fix of food? I've had the resolve so far not to give in to that stupid voice that thinks extra food is going to provide comfort to me.  I've also lost almost 20 pounds in just 2 weeks!!!

Oh yes the head hunger . . . I'm 18 months out . . . and it still attacks every now and then . . . it was a horrid battle for me in the beginning . . . and I USUALLY win the argument with myself now . . . but it takes time and patience . . . just be strong and you are doing so well!  Don't forget to post your weight loss numbers tomorrow!

Chris

Uggg... The dreaded head hunger..

I didn't have much of it early out.. but now that I am 5 months out... Well, it gets to me a lot.  I still don't have all the answers, but all I can tell you is to just take it one day at a time hun..

I have also learned that if you are craving something so bad, it is okay to have a small taste, just to get the flavor in your mouth to satisfy that craving. You don't have to eat all of anything..

Hope that helps hun..

Just remember you are so very early out.. Just take your time..

Keep that head up, take it one day at a time, and you will do great..

Hugs,
Jenn

the only head hunger I have experienced and had epic battles with is my own pre-op... but I read on one woman's blog yesterday in response to someone who was having a really really hard time with bread.. .that to get rid of her craving she sticks her nose deep in the bread.. takes a couple of wiffs of it.. and that helps her give her craving something to think about then it goes away.  I thought the visual of this was funny and it totally made sense to me... I have put that strategy in my arsenal since I may need to use it here soon!

Hi Ms. Blues,

The head hunger is the worst.  I have to agree with your comment about going through withdrawal.  For me, and I am sure a lot of people on this site. Food was my absolute best friend, it was there for me, in ways no one else could be. Of course it was a very destructive relationship, with me coming out the loser so to speak. It took a lot of therapy for me to understand this, and know if I was going to change my life, I would have to say goodbye to my best friend, and learn to cope with my stresses with something else besides food. Which of course is easier said then done. You are not alone out there, we have all been through this and still going through it. My head hunger is coming back, but I am able to deal with it easier, then I ever could before. We are all here for you and losing 20lbs in 2 weeks, you are doing awesome. Keep up the great fantastic work.

Ms. Blues.

Yes, the head hunger will go away and when you think it's gone it will show it's ugly little head again..lol I remember right after I had my RNY, I noticed every single food commercial on the television. I never thought Taco Bell looked so good, but I soon learned that nothing tastes as good as thin feels. You can do this and you will do this. DO NOT let the head hunger win this battle, you have already come a long way. I have noticed that my way of thinking about food has changed since surgery. I had RNY on 1/16/2008 and I am down 161lbs and there is NO way, I am going back to that old weight! Congratulations on the 20lbs loss, when the head hunger gets you down go to the grocery store, pick up a bag of 20lb potatos and carry that all around the store for atleast an hour, then you will feel so much better about the 20lb loss. Just imagine, how many of those 20lbs bags you are carring around. You are going to feel amazing when you get to your goal weight. I am almost at mine and let me tell you, this head hunger is a ***** and it will never go away, but that doesn't mean, I am going to lay down and let it win this battle. Heck NO!! And you better not either!!!  You will go through so many changes during this process. It is crazy, how your emotions change and the way you look at life. This will be a rollercoaster but it will be the best one you have ever been on!!

Good Luck,

Julie

Ms Blues,

Head Hunger is an awful thing. I get it every now and then. I go for a walk, start knitting ( I have made 3 scarves, so far) just try to keep busy.

Everybody has it, sometimes it is worse.

It is that little devil trying to win this battle. Guess what, we are going to win this one.

Hang in there, you are doing great.

Hugs & Love,

KAREN

WOW! What great supportive responses. Thank you!  I am laughing about how everything on TV looks incredibly good when a food commercial comes up. I am experiencing the same thing!!  I have had a lot of therapy to deal with head hunger, and I have had a lot of success, but the surgery and not being able to indulge without dire consequences puts the head hunger front and center and forces me to figure out other ways to not give in to it.  One of those ways was posting a message and getting a lot of great support.  Thanks again everybody. I will dig the heels in and keep at it!
