My sciatic nerve is acting up and I need meds now!  When I was pre-op, it only took one 800mg of Ibruprofen and the pain would go away.

Being post-op what have you all taken for anti-inflamatory?  Tylenol extra strength is not cutting it....

Can't I just take one Ibruprofen?  Ughhhh

Hi Gus,

So sorry you are hurting.  My surgeon said that Ibuprofen is ok as long as it is not used steadily.  I have used it for up to 3 days for sciatic pain with no ill effects.  I don't know about the 800 mg.  I would generally take two 200 mg (400 mgs total) tablets and that resolved the problem quickly.  I now use ibuprophen only when necessary for back pain occassionally.  To feel safer, you might take some prilosec along with it.  Supposedly it helps coat the pouch or something.  I never do it, but I've heard some say it is a good idea to do.

Feel better.

I take the 800 when needed for my bones. I make sure I take in on a full tummy. Usually I have a bowl of oatmeal in the mornings and take it then....use it on a temp basis, not long term.....

Sorry your in pain.....

Gus I am feeling for you dude because I have sicatica and the last time I had a super bad flair up...well it lasted for 4 months. YUCK!!!

A gal who use to work in our office who also had wls gave me Celebrax and her doc said it was okay to take. Well I went to my doc and told him and he said well lets try it out....and also said that it was the best of the RX nsaids to take if you are going to take any because it also has a coating in it. He also gave me prilosec or something that starts with a "P" and I have never had any reaction in my pouch.

I take two pills of it daily. It has also if you can believe it really helped with my last surgery!

Good luck Gus cuz I know how hard it is to get past that problem.

Gus,

I too have dealt with sciatica pain.  I have a wonderful chiropractor who has worked on getting the darn thing under control.  If you need a referral he is a teacher at a local chiro college and I'm sure he could find someone down your way.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Hi there,

Wish I could just have sciatic problems.  I have been on Celebrex for a long time and as long as I take Prisolsec or something like that with it, I do not have any problems.  Also I didn't have mine a few weeks ago and did take Aleve and didn't have any problems with it either, but I would only do that on a short term basis.  Remember the meds go through our bodies fast, so get the pain under control and keep it under control.

Love ya, Diane, the druggie

Hey Gus!

Yeah I know i've been a stranger around these parts but was just looking around and thought I'd pipe in.   I take Ibuprofen and have not had any problems...of course I dont take it continuously but I do take other pain meds pretty much every day.  My sciatic nerve pain ended up being a ruptured disk about a year after WLS and it got so bad that I finally couldnt stand long enough to even take a shower....went to a nuerologist who sent me for stat MRI and admitted me into the hospital for emergency back surgery!
Go figure after losing 100+ lbs THEN having back surgery...guess losing all that padding made it act up! LOL Idont know!

Guess what i'm trying to say is my advice if you've had it for awhile....get an MRI or look further into it...I didnt listen to my pain....kept working out harder thinking it would go away and it would for a short bit...then that happened.

So thats my 2 cents....Hope your feeling better soon!!   Julie  =)     lol..

I have to second the good chiropractor comment. ICE, rest and my Dr. ended up giving me vicodin for the pain. Don't know if it helped with the pain, but I did sleep better.
