What questions do they ask? Are they trick questions? I go today and frankly I have no idea why I am nervous. Is there a right or wrong answer?

Mine was pretty straight forward - just making sure that I understood the risks/ benefits of surgery, expectations, and some history about family issues and mental health (have you heard voices? have you seen people who aren't really there?) It's harmless, but expensive.

Just be honest.  Really.  They are trying to determine if you are a good candidate mentally and physically for this procedure and if you are able to comply with the program restrictions.  To also see if you're willing and able to follow the program long term.

Go in there, be relaxed, be honest and answer the questions they ask.  They want to see if you take your medicine and vitamins as directed, that you don't abuse alcohol and medications and will do well mentally with the program

Smile and don't sweat it.  You'll do fine!

Mine was absolutely stupid!  He asked me all kinds of common sense questions...I guess trying to ascertain whether or not I was crazy...then he started asking me MATH questions!!!!!!!  When I got two wrong he said, "you weren't good in math in school, were you?"  Well duh!  Then he asked me to count backwards from 100.............yeah........

I guess people who are bad at math do get to have the surgery, though....I had mine in January...

You'll do great!  Don't be nervous.  I think they just want to make sure you're competent to make such a huge decision.  But no insane person could deal with all the hoops that the insurance companies and/or medical groups make you jump through just to get an "ok" to have the surgery....

:O)

I agree with Maureen.. Just be honest, and yourself..

They ask you everyday normal questions,  just to get a feel for who you are..   My appointment was only was about 10 minutes, but I have heard of others being much longer..

In either case, just breathe, be yourself, and be honest.

Good Luck and let us know how it went..

Hugs,
Jenn

Thank you for all your replys. It was a peice of cake! I waited longer in the waiting room than time spent with the Therapist. You were all right! Hopefully I will get my date tomorrow...so they say...

I was completely honest and had no problems, the psycho said I was a hypochondriac when it comes to my weight.

I had to fill out a long psych evaluation.  I had done it years ago for a job so of course I knew what they were looking to be a red flag.  My husband is a Psych Nurse and he was with me.

After the Doc as very few questions.  Common sense.  My surgery was not just my weight I had and are getting rid of alot of physical problems that could shorten my life.  I focused on wanting to be healthy.  Which I do.

Hope it goes well for you.

most of their questions are to find out if you truly understand what big of a life change this will be and to see if you have unrealistic expectations.
