Everyone is diffrent of course. For me, I found after WLS that I could not drink plain water anymore without pain, especially if it was cold. I add crystal light to mine. I'm 3 years out now and I can drink some plain water without pain, but not much. I have no idea why this happens; but I did find out that I wasn't alone... it happened to others also.
Good luck with your weight loss.

For some reason plain water right after WLS, even up to 4-6 months can be uncomfortable. I could only drink Propel flavored water or warm tea until 5 months. Now I can handle ice cold anything and it tastes and feels great. However, I can count the full swallows I can take at any one time and it is 4. I can repeat after 5-10 minutes. That is why its important to always have your bottle or container with you. All your waking hours should be spent with a water bottle or container in hand. You will find your urine may be dark..that is your hint of more clear fluids needed!!.

It really is normal not to be able to get it all in that early out...I just wanted to ease your fears there. You might play with the temperature. Early out, warm herb tea is best for the pouch. It's sensitive to temperature for most people. Now the colder/icer the better for me, especially in the summer but you just have to experiment.
Later on you can build a habit by always having a bottle or container of water when you are doing something like driving or riding in the car; walking or shopping; reading; watching television. Now if I pull out of the driveway withou****er in my car, I'm turning around to head back to get it. I decided to imitate smokers in that habit..They light up when they finish doing something or getting in the car or ... you know. It's a habit. Build one.
Good luck.

I don't have a problem with the temp it's just that I feel so full and hurt after just a couple of small sips. And KIM, yes my urine is dark and I have no urge to pee probably because there isn't much to expel. Weird. I like the water and have no problem with it, I just feel sick after drinking, or eating, anything.
I just started with the herbal tea (great idea). Why does that go down so much easier? I can take a couple more sips of that before the pain starts.
I have so many questions for ya'll. Does anyone notice their sense of smell is much sharper? And also going back to the urge to go...I was wondering if it's because the cathater used? And when do these bandages fall off? I am afraid to pull them off, especially where the big incision is. What say you...anyone.

ps. Thanks for all the advice on the water

If herbal tea is the only fluid you can get down comfortably...drink it all day long! It softens the pouch and allows it to let fluids flow freely thru the stoma. Those stomas are tricky little devils at this stage. Any clear fluid is as good as another this early out. Also include clear fruit drinks...dilute them if they make you naseaus or dumpy feeling. I swear by Propel..it has no acidity..Crystal Light was too acidic my first few months. Room temp is a good idea also. This all will pass to a better place in about 2 months...WE promise..lol

I am fond of fruity herbal teas...Celestial Seasonings has some very good ones, they come in variety packs also. As for the broth, I do not like sodium free broths.. so I mix 2/3 regular chicken broth with 1/3 sodium free (or even 1/2 and 1/2). You can also pour off the broth from prepared soups for a nice variety of flavors. It has very little protein, but feels good in the pouch/tummy. Tomato soup might be a bit too acidc as of yet. Stay away from Broccoli soup for awhile because of the gas it can cause. Your pouch will move things along quite rapidly sometimes and your main stomach will continue to make noises and do its job of sending digestive juices along to the intestines. It makes noise too..lol

I have another question. Do these staples come out by themselves? Or does Dr. Suh take them out and if so, when? I will being going to my grocery store this weekend to look for fruity, herbal, decaffeinated teas. I think I will pick up a few cans of soup and or broths. Thanks to everyone for all their help. I don't know what I'd do without you guys.
