OT...any hunters in Pomona?.I have a question
I have a new friend that is looking for venison. He was a hunter when he lived in Atlanta but hasn't had the oportunity to hunt here in californa. He is just wondering if there any processing plants where he may be able to go and purchase some venison. Any info would appreciated.
He lives in Pomona and is hoping for something/somewhere that is close to home.
Thank you,
Linda

you can try Whole Foods, sometimes they have wild game meats. The only place I have ever found venison is at a place called ABS Deli in Long Beach. They're selection varies from time to time, so you might tell him to call in advance. You can probably stop by after LB Coffee, if you're going on Saturday. Here's the address:

Greetings, Linda,
Now, you're talking my language.
Sadly, no deer tags will be purchased this year, or I would gladly and freely share the spoils. Always have plenty to share when I have gone on a bow hunt.
I would suggest your pal join any number of local hunting groups even if he can't regularly participate. Vension steaks can be had online, but they’re prohibitively expensive. Participants in deer takes often freely share the take. That said, I have seen frozen- too thinly sliced venison steaks at the local Albertsons here in South Orange County. And, no, I wouldn't bother. Venison steaks should be thick braised slowly or marinaded.
Pardon me, but I couldn’t help but smile, if not smirk a little here. Given what you've posted about your political leanings, I'm thinking this friend must be pretty special for you to help out a fellow HUNTER and for a Bambi, no less. Not for you necessarily, but for the copious others reading who DEPLORE HUNTING WITHOUT ANY REASONED FOUNDATION. Populations of deer and oher game often explode unchecked and die of starvation deaths that have to be seen to appreciate this stark reality. A starvation death of an animal is medieval in it's cruelty, natural or not. NO hunter that's not some aberrant sicko enjoys killing! It's about the challenge of the process, and putting wonderful, healthy food on the table. Nuff said, but it gets tiresome trying to educate PURELY stupid emotional ignorance over reality.
For the Intractable, numerous TRULY IGNORANT GUN-HATERS, most of my hunting for nearly 30 years has been taking game with falcons and hawks. A necessity- as such charges only trhive on wild game. It's been a supreme privilege as this true ancient sport of kings requires enormous patience, dedication and sacrifice. From Apprentice to Master, federal licensure typically takes 7 years for aquisition,
Speaking of deer, long ago, I tried unsuccessfully to legally acquire a single or brace of Russian - Mongolian Berkut eagles to import for hunting large buck locally This enormous subtype of golden eagles found essentially in Russia dwarfs our own in size and aggressiveness and are used for taking wolf and bear mostly now by the local nomads as opposed to any even remote royalty.
Sheeesh, pardon me for going on so.... Just received an invation from my nephew about a planned pheasant hunt this fall. I'm already salivating and nothing beats my wild pheasant with my creamed madera suace and wild rice. Suddenly famished.
So,enough of my nonsense... How are your posted health issues coming along?

Hello Rock,
Thanks for the information. Just because I am a Democrat doesn't make me a bleeding heart liberal. LOL I personally wouldn't be able to hunt because I love animals too much. However, I don't condemn those that do. Especially if they are going to consume the meat. I have a problem with people that just kill for the trophy... And just because I am not a member of the NRA doesn't mean I beleive that Americans don't have ther right to carry a gun........
My health issues are finally starting to resolve. I have been able to eat more solid food now...still have the gut pain on occasion, but it is improving. Thank you for asking.
Have a great week
Linda

Nice to hear back from you, Linda, and I'm pleased I didn't manage to put you completely off with my diatribe about hunting, We actually agree here. Trophy hunting put's me off, too! I, too, love animals even those I harvest. I take no pleasure in killing per se, but admittedly, I enjoy the spoils of a legal take. So do the raptors, I have had who aided me in the process. I'm crave wild game and it's generally quite heathy eating. More so for RNY's than DS'rs per se. But I'm skilled at taking out the gamey flavoring in the cooking process.
But never mind our political differences, or the harvesting of game, etc.. I'm relieved to hear you are doing better physically these days. Suffice to to say, I have been a tad worried about your treatment protocols to date. I'll just leave at that.
Oh, and do please stop with the new avatars. Far too sexy and distracting with an emphasis on BOTH really. **Smirk, but seriously!**
Thanks again for getting back with me.,
