Newbie with concerns, please help.
Hello All!!!!
I am new to this site and am thinking about possible weight loss surgery. I have PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome). Which makes weight loss hard and weight gain easy. So I am looking into alternatives. I weight 265 lbs. I am 25 years old and I have been over weight since I was 8. I have lost about 15lbs on my own, but that has taken over 6 months. I want to have children someday but I worry about the PCOS getting in the way and I worry about the effects of the surgery. I was also told that I will probably have diabetes later in life. I guess I am looking for some answers, support, information. I just don't know really. It is all so overwhelming.
Thank you for your time.

Good Morning Shelly,
Welcome to Obesity Help and to the CA Board. You will find a friendly and helpful bunch of people here.
Congratulations on making the decision to enhance the quality of your health and life by going through weight loss surgery.
A very good book to read regarding the topic is "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". You can go to Amazon.com, your local library or your local bookstore for it. It is very comprehensive and though. It discusses all of the pros and cons of the various wls offered.
Read everything you can regarding the subject. Also, if you can find a local support group to go to that would be great. The more you know, the better off you will be.

Without struggle, there is no progress.
I did suffer from PCOS 30 years ago. Things have come a long way since then. PCOS can get in the way of having kids, but as I said there are so many alternatives in getting pregnant that are offered to you that were not available to me. Yes, having PCOS can make you insulin resisitant which will do the diabetes thing. WLS took care of that problem for me within 2 weeks of surgery. I think you need a good gyno, and speak to someone about weight loss surgery. Yes, it is very difficult to lose weight and just looking at food can put pounds on you. In life I have found that knowledge is power, so learn all you can about every problem you have. It is a decision you will need to make yourself, and when I was 25 I weighed what you are now, and was 392 before I had surgery at 58. I am so glad I did it, and my only regret is I didn't do it sooner!
Welcome and good luck

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.
