Sense of smell
No change in my sense of smell, but I do think I have a heightened sense of taste. I pick up the subtle flavors in everything I eat and drink. I figure its related to how much slower I have to eat and since I can only eat so much quanity of food....I eat better stuff.
Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Well now that I think about it my sense of smell has changed too. I have not only noticed the difference in breath but also the difference in food smells. For example, I cannot tolerate the smell of bacon, which never bothered me prior to wls.
In addition, my taste has definitely changed. I totally disliked grapes, beets, and a lot of other foods and now I get go one day without having grapes.
Not sure this information helped, but wanted to respond.
Have a great day.

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Oh how I identify with the heightened sense of smell. When I got home from the hospital after surgery, around 1pm, I could tell you what every one of my neighbors were having for lunch! LOL The next morning, took the dogs out for their morning constitutional and I could tell you what they (neighbors, not dogs LOL) were having for breakfast! Now that I'm over 3 mos out, this sensation seems to have abated somewhat. But pancakes, waffles, fresh bread (especially while it is being baked!), bacon and certain spices, such as garlic, thyme, oregano..I can smell and wish I couldn't! One thing I didn't notice was the breath issue..and I hope I never do! LOL

YES! And I hate it. Food smells are way more intense but...There is a smell in my house that I can't figure out. It's in my bedroom, and down my hall way. I can not figure it out and it's making me feel insane. Everyone that comes to my house is asked to go down the hall and into my room to see if they can smell it as well. Every single person has said no fowl smell just a light powder/floral smell. It doesn't smell sweet or good at all.
And, I have noticed my hubby has a matalic breath odor. My nose is making me sick. If you figure this one out please share it with the rest of us.

For about 6 months after surgery, my sense of smell was very distorted. I swore that I, myself, had a medicinal smell to me. Didn't seem to matter how much I showered, lotioned up or whatever, I could still smell that medicinal smell. As for foods, well, frying chicken was the worst and to this day I can't tolerate that smell. I also thought that other people smelled funny as well. It seemed to pass after about 6 months, but I still notice that I have a heightened sense of smell. I asked my doctor about it and he just laughed, like I was nuts or something. Anyway, I think it will subside for you as it did for me and others.
Good luck.
