WOW moment
Aloha dear friends!!
I just had to share my WOW moment (day really) with all of you!
Last year at this exact time, I had moved here (SOCAL) from Hawaii and I was still "thinking" about having WLS. (sometimes quickly, sometimes sloooowly, right?) and my son and daughter-in-law came to visit. They are Disneyland NUTS and insisted we go. At this point in my life, I had become unable to walk for more than a few feet without puffing, I NEVER went anywhere with stairs, I planned ALL my outing around the "where's the bathroom" (I know you know why!)and had narrowed my life down to pretty much not going anywhere that required walking! I agreed to go if they would get me a scooter and despite the embarrasment of using it (after all, I'm not handicapped!)I knew I couldn't walk all over without it--especially in the July heat!!
We went--it was a DISASTER! Crowded would have been a step up! and HOT as blazes! I couldn't get through the crowds well, and I was just plain embarrassed! The ONLY thing wrong with me was that I was OVERWEIGHT!That day was completely life changing! I knew I was too young to be in that situation, so I came home and got a referral to Dr Ali's office and on Oct 21 2008 I became a member of the loser's bench.
Fast forward to NOW!
I am down 87lbs!! Feel great and exercise regular! I'm a FANATIC about my Vitamins, water and protein. I never eat more than 5grms of sugar in a day, I can't remember what fried food tastes like (thank GOD!) and with the help and support of all of you I will be able to live a life without knee surgery, diabetes, back surgery and assorted other diseases I either had or was about to have.
My WOW moment was that I just spent 2 FULL days at Disneyland! I walked everywhere and I carried the backpack! I took my supplemnts with me, and everytime I saw a scooter with someone on it who might be like me I remembered to feel grateful! OH! and I bought a T-SHIRT!! off the RACK!! size LARGE!!!!
I have had MANY moments, but this "full circle" makes me cry just thinking of it! and believe me, these are happy tears of gratitude! I've been restored and I owe it all to you!
Thank you all for your love and support.

That is fantastic!!! I LOVE Disneyland and have been forced because of my weight to rent the scooter every time, even on our trips to disneyworld. it's embarrassing and makes me sad.
I can totally relate to that feeling. I can't wait to have your wow moment :) to walk all around Disney again and feel good will be so amazing.
Congratulations to you!!! Whoo hoo!!
hugs,
Jackie

I am so happy for you!!!! Going to Disneyland and walking all day for several days (and fitting in ALL the rides) was one of my very special goals. When I achieved it, I misted up over and over thinking of how blessed I was and how grateful I was. You have many more great WOWs ahead, but this one is a special one for sure!

I totally relate to your experience...returning to an 'experience' and being able to handle it completely different..what a mind blowing event. Some WOW moments make us laugh and others, which are usually more meaningful, make us cry...out of sheer joy and wonderment at just what this tool has given us...a new chance at a better life. I wish you more WOW moments in your journey...you have done the work, you certainly deserve them!
