Munching Festival! UGH

I work for an elected politician which means when he's at the Capitol, as his District Director, I represent him at forums, dinners, luncheons, and so on.  Since I've returned from surgery, there haven't been as many events or I've been lucky that the food served was not tempting.  Today though I had a very difficult time. I ate my good for a gastric bypass patient breakfast, but at the 8 am event, I gave in and took a couple bites of a muffin.  I didn't want to do it, but I did, but what was cool is I stopped and realized it wasn't that great.

At the lunch time forum, they didn't just give us a lunch with a large sandwich, but it had a small salad, a side of fruit, two cookies, and chips.  It all came in a lunch box handed to us. No wonder Americans are overweight. Nobody needs all this for lunch.  I ate the turkey from the inside of half the sandwich and felt full. An hour later I was hungry and nibbled on a cookie, literally a nibble, but I stopped.  Then I opened the chips and nibbled again, probably eating a 1/4 of the bag. It was a mini sized bag.  After the chips, all I wanted to do was munch out some more.  I ended up eating some soy crisps back at the office.

This is the biggest oops day since I had since surgery six weeks ago.  I learned I need to remove the food I don't want to eat immediately.  I am realizing I could have just taken the sandwich out of the lunch box and left the snacks.  I also learned salty potato chips, even just a small amount seems to increase the amount of food I want.  I've lived and learned. I don't want to do that again!!

Any other advice?
