I had my surgery on the 7-6 and I now get my 3 oz. per hour. I can get an ounce in at a time... I know the Dr wanted 3 oz hourly but is this to soon being only 6 days out. Already today I have gotten in 42 oz of liquid... and still have 4 hours til I go to bed.... please tell me I'm not doing something wrong or that something is wrong.

I also notice I didn't have my BM squirt today, is this because of the protein the Dr said to start yesterday. I am able to get in 71g protein in liquids form. I'm getting a little nervous. Am I on track???

Theresa,

Every surgeon is so darn different in their protocols.  Are you feeling good?  Taking your vitamins?  I would say you're doing great if you're feeling well, your body will let you know if you're not doing things right.  I can't remember exactly what I ate when, but if you read my blog, you'd get a good idea.  You may not have a BM everyday, just make sure you don't get constipated, but with the liquid you're drinking, you sound like things should be fine.

Hang in there, and by all means, if you have questions or concerns, call your surgeon's office tomorrow.

Hugs and congrats!

I assume you mean 3 oz of water per hour. My surgeon suggested a couple of sips (2 oz) every 15 minutes. Target is 64 oz of water daily. If water is an issue, try it room temp, or add a little 100% fruit juice to it.   Spread your protein intake throughout the day, don't try to consume it all at one time. "On track" ?  Everyone is different. Every patient has some type of issue--afraid to swallow, afraid food will get stuck, not remembering to take supplements, not eating enough regular foods (when allowed to eat solid foods), not drinking enough water, not getting enough protein, etc.  Follow the protocol set by your surgery. That is your target. Your surgeon will be the judge of whether you are "on track", as he knows the history of his patients and how they respond to his particular protocol. Good luck. I'm 3 years post op, and you might find some insights to the process on my profile story within my profile page. I do suggest you attend support meetings every month, one or more of them. They offer invaluable information about the post op process, some things you probably were unaware of prior to surgery. Good luck. DAVE
