Hi Cali board,

I have been nauseated all day, took a compazine with little relief.  Would a little Diet Sprite or Diet 7-up hurt?  I don't want a whole can, just a few sips!
What do you all think, what works for you?
(This is the 1st time I have been nauseated this whole time...)

Thanks,

Kristin
(and I am a registered nurse, so I know in reality, I should not have soda..!!)

The best advice I EVER got for nausea was Peppermint tea. My surgeon knew just how to treat a gal.   Now Pre op I was NEVER a tea drinker but I remember well my first several weeks post op.  I started each day sipping warm peppermint tea.  Tasted like crap but it calmed the storm in my pouch and set the little guy up for the day.  I noticed on the days I didnt have the tea  my pouch was just plain angry.  I am 3 years out and still partake frequently.  The nausea will pass I promise.  You are still so new that it will take time.  Just remember to go slow with anything you put in there and in teeeeeny tiny amounts.  Feel better.  Oh and about the sprite...........Bubbles  ouch.   I'm not so sure, the lemon lime may help your nausea but those bubble will probably hurt like the dickens not to mention gas.   Oh and you can do the tea cold too.  Congratulations on your surgery!

Oooh, I didn't even THINK of peppermint tea, and I love tea.  I know I have some in the kitchen, I'm going to try it right now!  Thanks so much!

I'd try the tea before anything carbonated....with your new little pouch soda will NOT taste the same or settle your tummy like it did before surgery. You'll wish you were just naseous.

Good luck!

Thanks Sue Bee!

I always forget this too!  I am not a soda drinker, but I love tea, hot or cold.  I used to have a cup of tea before bed time, years ago, kind of like my little bed time routine.  It helped me sleep and got me all calm and cozy.  I used to even have a specail cup.  Wow!   Thanks so much for bringing this back, I am going to have tea tonight!

HI, Kristin! Congrats on having your surgery...

My two cents on this issue is this:

If you read the boards much and see the struggles that we "old timers" have with our pouches...and the struggles with making the right choices that we have every day (and that you will have one day, too), the issues is not so much should I have that sip of soda... but... should I begin now to compromise on what my doc has told me to do?

Should I begin this early out to do something I should not do with my new tummy and my new "rules"?

Once I began compromising, I started gaining weight back.

So... my "advice" is... stick to your new rules. Have some tea. Wait it out. It will pass.

God bless you today!! Feel better soon...

Thanks so much for all the tips.
I did have the tea, and it worked!  I really don't want to go against what my MD recommends....I just wanted to feel better so thanks for all your good ideas!

Have a great day!
