OK . . . question about this extra skin that is "hanging" around . . .

I seem to have this jelly belly middle on me (well I have had that for a long time . . .it just shakes around a lot more now). . . and since I really know nothing about plastics or what comes or goes . . . how much of that is extra skin . . . I know there is still a lot of fat floating around in there . . . but how do they decide when  you should start thinking about plastics (not that I can ever afford it .  . . but I can dream).

Becky . . . did they say how many pounds of skin they took off you?  I might remember you saying something about like 14 lbs . . . but that might be just something I heard somewhere about something . . . you guys know I have no memory . . . when they take skin off . . . how deep are they going?  1/4 inch, 1/2 inch . . . 1 inch?  I really know NOTHING about this . . .

So just a topic that seems nice and safe . . . and I supposed I should go to a plastics forum . . . but I'd rather hear from this group!

Have a great nite . . . I'm turning in . . .

Chris

I have the same thing.  I have lots of it.  There are two different things you can do with plastics, you can have just the skin removed, my insurance company will pay for that, or you can have both done, the tightening of the muscles and the skin removal.  The cost of mine is high, one reason is because of my minor heart problem, he wants to keep me overnight in a hospital instead of his center where he sends his patiences.  I kinda feel like I am being charged by the pound for the removal.  It is going to be awhile, and I have wondered how it would work to just have the skin removed and not have the total thing done.

I too am turning in for the night, it's been another long day here

Everyone's body is so different, you really have to go to a few consultations with a plastic surgeon to get his professional opinion. He will tell you what your options are, what your potential results could be, how much more weight to lose etc....

I had three consultations with surgeons at the last OH event in LA. It was very helpful and convenient since so many surgeons were in one place at the sme time.

Your memory is good on this one sweetie, 14 lbs is what they said they took. I asked for a picture, but they couldn't find the camera (bummed about that). I have no idea how deep they went, but from seeing Jeans picture, it looks like at least a 1/2 inch I would guess.
As to what Diane said, my insurance paid for the panni removal but because of the extent of my hernias, I got the muscle tightening and readjusting. Lucky, I guess, but if I didn't have the hernias I may not of even gotten the panni removed!
I would get some estimates, but most won't talk about it until you are at goal, or stable for months.
Hope this helps sweetie!!!   bigg huggs, Becky

Thanks everyone . . . I'm not even seriously considering it right now . . . I'd probably have to lose another 40 lbs first . . . but I just had no idea what happens . . . see  I didn't even know there was a muscle tightening option!  Just wanted a general idea.

Thanks!
Chris

FYI - You do not necesarily need to be at goal to have a consultation or to even have plastics.

Chris,

I have no clue either!  I myself would be welcomed into the Sharpie group and would probably recieve honors.  lol.  I have this belly that flapps and the Bat Wings.  I tease my kids that I am going to take flight with them.  lol.  I was told that I had to be wtihin 25lb of my goal weight before I could consider plastics.  Right now not in my budget and honestly I am a bit afraid.  I have seen some fantastic plastics done and Ihave seen some horrible messes made on people.  I think that if I ever can afford to do it I would have to really check around to make sure that you were getting a doctor that knows what they are doing and that you can see their work and actually talk to people who had the work done.  Is there a plastics forum, I forget that there are other groups on the site other than us.  Keep us posted on what you find out.  Now you have peaked my interest.
