Got an "icky" question

Good Morning So Cali

I have been scheduled for a colonoscopy in 2 weeks.  When I read the "prep" stuff I became concerned.  With a full day of "flushing" and full liquids, this seems a bit strenuous for my pouchy.  Anyone had this done since surgery?  I will inform the gastroenterologist of my WLS and the meds I take, but hearing first hand always sets my mind at ease.

I know this is an icky subject so if you want to email me personally please do.  [email protected]

Thanks

Sheryl

It shouldn't affect your pouchy, this is more of cleaning out the intestines. You may want to drink extra water as you will become dehyrated faster than usual.

You might want to do a couple of enemas.  That was what I needed when I had a rearend exam.

Without struggle, there is no progress.

I wish that was all I had to do.  I have to drink about a gallon of some kind of laxative all day the day before.

I am glad I use Charmin!!!!

hi sheryl! I did one since WLS, and was so afraid of not having enough protein during the flush day, that i snuck a SMALL amount of something to eat.

They did the test, but even that small amount made a bit of poop.

Had to re-do the friggin' test another time!! The next time, I was good... it was hard on me, mentally, as I try to be "just so" with the way that I eat and do my vitamins.

So, I understand what you are feeling!! You will do ok, though, it's just a mental freak-out, at least it was for me.

Good luck!!

Sheryl,

I had my colonoscopy prior to WLS and did the drinking of the liquid which wasn't as bad as I had heard.  It wasn't super delicious but it was tolerable with Crystal Light Lemonade.  My gastro had told me there were pills he could have given to me that do the same thing as drinking the liquid however, since my asthma was an issue he didn't want to go there.  So you might check into this option.

Good luck.

Hi.  I had a colonoscopy after WLS and had not problems.  You will have to drink a lot of liquid, however, I think it is only 8 ounces every 30 or 60 minutes for a period of time so hopefully you can do this.  If not, drink what you can and just follow your doctor's instructions.  Wishing you the best.
