Question on pouch capacity

Hi all,

I am wondering why the pouch seems to change in terms of the amount one can eat.  Today it feels like it did before surgery, but yesterday, I was definitely full from a very small amount of food.  Before surgery, my appetite seemed to increase right before my period.  My doctor said this is a rather normal occurrence. It is possible my pouch is more capable of holding more food right before my period?  I am perplexed!!

Just also had to ask if a 48 pound loss is good for 8 weeks post surgery???

I don't get periods...Hummm...I wonder why

I do know that my pouch fits various amounts of food.  There are some days that I get full quicker than other days with the same amount of food.  Everyone is different.  In some cases, it is true that the pouch either stretched too much after a long period of time and in other cases, during surgery, the pouch may have been created larger than others? I think the likelyhood of making it too big is rare but that can only be verified with certain tests (x-rays, ct scan, etc.).

Regardless, you just had surgery and your pouch should be small right now.

48 lbs in 8 weeks? Yes that's great!

Dang you Gus, you sucked me into the period thing.  I just was reading, didn't pay attention to who was posting, and then I looked over and saw your smiling face!!

Gus,

You're hilarious!!!

Thanks for your post. It's such a mystery to me why I can eat more and sincerely seem to have the need to eat more than other days.  I guess I just get to listent to my body and stop when I've had enough. I suppose the little stomach acts like a regular stomach, but the difference is we're all paying attention now because the consequences could be rather yucky.

Thanks!

Your pouch can change the amount of food it holds, depending on the texture and breakdown before it is swallowed...   case in point,  eat a hardboiled egg...you will be STUFFED!  East some scrambled eggs...you can eat twice as much.  That is why it is so important you eat your protein first....it takes longer to get down and to digest..animal protein anyway.  Carbs breakdown fast..especialy simple carbs.  The softer the food, the more you can eat...example.....donuts   and apples     ..lol

holding up my apple..lol  (not hiding donuts anymore..lol)

Boy my apples had better not be soft or the are going back to the store but...apples were the first raw fruit  I was able to eat and enjoy. I am almost a year out and somedays I can't hardly eat a 1/2 cup of anything like cottage cheese, other days I have to make myself stop... I haven't figures they why's or wherefores yet myself.
