Tired during that time of the month

I only get real tired during my time of the month, about a week and 1/2 of the month.  What do you do to avoid this extreme tiredness?

Have your iron checked.  You could be low iron and during your period it would get worse.  Are you taking iron supplements?  If not try that and see if it doesn't improve your energy level.

Ok, that is what I thought.  My iron levels have been good, but I am beginning to take iron.  I just don't want to get constipated.

Unfortunately oral iron supplements will cause constipation.  If it does, take either some kind of fiber supplement such as Benefiber or Colace which is a stool softener.  Try the fiber first.  Really watch your iron because it can cause alot of problems you don't even think about.

I'm currently going through iron infusions due to severe anemia, not all because of WLS, but probably made worse because of it.  I don't absorb oral iron whatsoever.  Besides horrible exhaustion, I also developed leg cramps, incessant ice chewing, severly dry skin, hair loss, and trouble concentrating just to name a few problems associated with anemia.

Even if you just take the extra iron during your periods that might be enough for you.  Or try a multi-vitamin with iron.  You probably don't need alot as your levels are coming back good, so just that little boost at menstruation time might do the trick.

Thank you for taking time out to reply.  I think that just during this time of the month it will help.  I hope you are, or will do better.

I was like that too, and my PMS was really bad after a few months post-op.

I had my blood tested and even though I was taking my vitamins everyday my iron was still low.  I got on birth control and doubled my iron. I didn't get constipated and I felt a lot better in about a month.

Thank you, sounds like I just need to take the Iron.  If I do get constipated I can rely on MOM...LOL

This conversation has been very helpful. I am PMSing right now and having a horrible time with my energy level and it seems like I am feeling all my emotions at 10 times their normal intensity. I'll talk to my PCP about it. I didn't even think of connecting this to my iron levels.

I am so tired that I am missing work.  I hope that by taking the iron that this will not happen next month.  my PMS is ok, normal, but extremely tired.
