2009 RAFTING TRIP

Just to start off, Rhonda and I partook of a little mis-direction here on the boards for security purposes on her part.  For that, we're sorry but it was necessary!

****UPDATED******  Here's the whole story!

Our adventure started off at the airport! I was waiting at the bottom of the stairs with my buddy Jayden. I had on my fancy smancy new hat and she recognized me right off the bat! Big huggs all around and an introduction to Jayden. Off to get the luggage, tromped to the car and off to Truxel Avenue to meet up with Laura and Olivia, Barb and her MIL (oh, gosh………Iva? Ada? Help me someone!) and Nancy. We yapped and yapped and yapped until I think the restaurant people were either going to throw us out or charge us rent!!! What a great group of people we are!   Friday we got up and took the old man to physical therapy and started packing the camper. Then Rhonda, Jayden and I headed off to Target first and then Costco!  Target brought us ………LEGOS!!!! Jayden scored a bunch of legos and some plastic bins to store them in. From Costco about $454 later we had enough food to feed a small army. Tri tip, bread, beans, salad, drinks, breakfast stuff, etc. Once we got all that loaded we hooked the car up and headed out.   Of course, this is when my illustrious guest decides to tell me she wants Starbucks. I’m dragging a 20’ bucket of dead weight and enough food for an army and she wants Starbucks. Well, what the Queen wants, the Queen gets. But, she had to wait until we trudged up the hill to Weaverville. We went to Subway and had meatballs in a bowl with cheese on top. You can make just about every restaurant make you food the way you want it if you are super nice, bat your eyes and say please………   We loaded up to finish the last leg of our journey. We pulled into the campground and it was then time for Rhonda to get her surprise. This woman has been trying to get EVERYONE to tell her what the surprise was. She even stooped so low as to try and grill my 6 year old step-son! Surprise surprise……..I didn’t tell Jayden a darn thing therefore the grand inquisitor couldn’t get the kid to spill the beans. Hubby knew, but he’s a stubborn old dude! Her surprise was………Joy all the way up from Jamestown to spend the weekend with us and just chill out and visit.   We set up the new tent which is a 12 x 14 octagon shaped taj mahal! Wow. What a tent. I got a deal and a half on that baby! Rhonda and Jayden were roomies for 2 nights and they each accused each other of snoring loudly. ( I thought I heard a bear growling a couple of times……was I mistaken?) We got the trailer leveled and braced, plugged in and ready for occupancy. Chairs out and let the visiting begin.   We hit the river at 10 am.  We had such a blast.  Here's the link to the photos.....

The Rafting trip was the highlight of the weekend. We had so much fun. It started around 10 am with “worst case scenario" training and proceeded to load the boats and ship off! Our guide was a wonderful young man named Evan, but……….we all called him Red. We hit a few rapids, followed orders amazingly swift and managed to keep ourselves afloat…………for a while. We hit one batch and got hung up on the rocks. Evan shouted HIGH-SIDE BACK and we all shifted to the left and the back of the boat. Rhonda was sitting in my lap! We were hung up pretty good and the water was flowing OVER the boat! OMG! It took letting some air out of our raft and 4 strong guys to yerk the front end around and get us back in business. My hat survived and wasn’t lost, but poor thing got squished (this is my play hat – not my fluffy pretty hat!). Ahhhh, we survived.    We were floating and Rhonda decided to joke around with someone with NO sense of humor. At all. She joked to the lady about falling out of the boat again (she’d fallen out once already) and this lady fired back “Well, I can see which boat has the b*tc* in it!" Oh, No. She. Didn’t! Yup, she did. So, Rhonda kept trying to bribe any and all the guides ….. $50 cold hard cash to whoever knocks her in the water again. It didn’t happen.    We made it down to the last big rapid called Hell Hole. Wow. The guide warned us that the RIGHT side of the boat stood a strong chance of being knocked in the water if we didn’t follow his commands perfectly. Ok, felt safe there as Rhonda and Karen were on the right side of the boat. Tracy and I were on the Left. We headed in with Red barking orders at us. We were doing so well when all of a sudden one minute I was in the boat and the next I was under water. How the hell did that happen? Made my way to the surface, feet downstream and just floated toward the other boats. It was that fast. Rhonda, in the boat reached for me to hold onto me (that’s her story – I think she pushed me out!!!!) and said “oh my gosh….. Where’s MoMo?"    We got back in the boat after a short break and made it to the end where my adorable Joe had food ready for us. We had a blast. We slept so good Saturday night after sitting around and visiting! Good food, good people, good fun.    Sunday we headed home, cleaned out the trailer, put the food away, put the trailer in storage and showered. Joe went out with friends looking for deer and Rhonda, the kid and I went to the Sun Dial Bridge (massive waste of money) then to Peter Chu’s for Chinese food, and WalMart Supercenter and then to Toppings for sugar free frozen yogurt. Yummmmmm.   This morning we got up early and I checked my Farm Town farm where my Joe had been farming for me and found he’d planted my crops in a pattern. It said………"I Love You Mo" Awwww, how sweet. Sunday was our 6th wedding anniversary.    WE showered, Rhonda packed and we headed out around 8:30. We made it down to the Arden Fare mall where we went to the LEGOS store! We then headed down to Old Town Sacramento and the Rail Road Museum. Jayden had a blast. A bit too much of “Will You Buy Me………" he finally got the evil eye from MoMo. WE dropped Rhonda off at the airport around 5 and I headed home. Sad. A wonderful weekend with an amazing woman friend was over. Memories galore. I have more pictures to post if I can figure out how.   Got home and not 10 minutes later the phone rang. I got called out on double time because of fires in Burney. 1800 lightning strikes in a 24 hour period. I’m up here making maps and manning the phones. I have to be in court tomorrow morning at 8:15 am for Jury Duty. Ugh. They’ll release me here at 6, then home to shower and off to the court house.    This is my story and I’m sticking to it. Rhonda will probably say I’m lying (she is such a trouble maker) but I’m Cute and I’m Innocent and …..I’m Cute! (did that get me off the hook?)   Wow, I sure wish I did caffeine sometimes!

What a great adventure.  The ear to ear grins on both your faces summed it all up.  Sounds like you are ready to go again.

Wow, that sounded like so much fun!  I'm so glad you all got to have this adventure together.  I've always wanted to go rafting.  Need to add it to my "Bucket List" I reckon.

Thanks for sharing Maureen!

Mo,

You did an awesome job and exactly as it happened, well mostly!  You left out a few parts, but only you and I will know what those are!  My lips are sealed.  And NO I did not push you, I was grabbing on you so I wouldn't fall out!  lol.  You are going to be pretty tired today, wish I was there to help out.  Jayden is a dear and I miss my bunk mate already (he is the snoring one!)  but I fell in love with him as I knew would.   Dinner at the Mongolian BBQ was awesome  it was delicious, but I was jabbering so much I let it get cold.  But the jabbering was really good.  I was very surprised to see Isla.  She is such a wonderful woman and it is such a joy to sit with her and talk.  She is like a big furry blanket on a cold day, but only better.  I got to see my Olivia and she shared her baby with me.  I  can't wait till she comes down  with Laura to see me so we can just play.  Laura thank you so much for bringing her.  It was good to see you and hug you.  And know you are still in my prayers as always.  Nancy (aka Marilyn) was looking hot as usual, she gets cuter and cuter every time I see her.  I can't thank Barb enough for bringing Isla, Barb you will never know how much that meant to me.  And Barb, It was awesome seeing you.  You always make a person feel so welcomed and loved.  Thank you my friend.  You all are such special ladies.

Joy,  you are an amazing woman, just listening to your stories is so intriguing, you have just done so many interesting things in your life!  Thank you for driving so far away to come and see us.  It was  a real Joy to meet you.  Love the red hats you made for us too.  I am sure MOMO will post those pictures soon as I am so electronically challenged.  lol

I have to say this is one of those weekends that stay in the memory bank for ever.  I got out of my box and did things that "I just don't do".  But gotta say it was so worth it.  I wore a sleeveless shirt all weekend, I walked around in my bathing suit all day and was not for one second self conscious.  I river rafted (for those of you who don't know this, I am terrified of water)  Mo, could you tell?  I don't like flying but I did it again!  I will also do it again!   I don't' go places alone, but I did it, and i would do it again.  I don't go places where I have never been before with someone, but I did it.  I will do it again.  I did not make any plans, I played it by ear, I would do that again.

I can't thank MOMO enough for making me feel so loved so safe and so special.  I got to just be me and believe it or not for the first time in as long as I can remember, I like me.  I like being being me.  I am not perfect, but because of this surgery and these wonderful people around me here in this group, the wonderful friends I have met through this and my awesome and supportive loving family, I can be me and this is a good thing.  Thank you everyone here.

Love you all.

(((((HUGS)))) to both Momo and Rhonda...you two are the best! And the only thing I see that was left out is...Rhonda you forgot to tell about your other gift so you could laugh until you pee your pants LOL...your DEPENDS!!
I included a "diaper" so Rhonda could pee her pants if the need was there.LOL Yes, I am a bit nuts to say the least.
Rhonda is right, I have done a lot of stuff and I have been a lot of places and many time I go off by myself for days on end. And not all people can do it, like Miss Rhonda but that is what makes us all individuals. I am sure  there is a book or 2 in me and I even have some of it on disk. Who knows????
I had a fantastic week end Thank you both Momo and Rhonda for your support and understanding and knidness.

HUGS
