Question: A little light headed and sometimes dizzy

Hi all,

I know being light headed and sometimes a little dizzy can be from anything, but I've noticed it a lot in the past week or so.  I am almost at my 9th week.  I am wondering if the lower calorie consumption combined with exercise and that time of the month can contribute to feeling the way I am.  I am probably consuming only 900-1000 calories or less and yet I am spending a half hour swimming laps or 30 minutes on my stationary bike around 4-5 times per week.

Have any of you had a similar experience or have heard of this before in gastric bypass patients?

Thanks!

MsBlues

I was actually light headed last night and slightly nauseous.  I realized that with my exercise yesterday, I hadn't taken in enough water.  I started sipping and even ate a couple sugar free popcicles and felt much better very shortly.

Also, if you have blood sugar issues, make sure you check your sugar levels.  If you're low, get some fruit or fruit juice in.  Should bring it right back up.

I'm sure others will have ideas too.  If none of these issues apply and it continues, definitely contact your doctor immediately.

Another possibility...do you take meds for high blood pressure or hypertension?  My PCP advised that as I lost weight and my BP came more in line with the 'normal' range, I might experience dizziness or light headiness...signs that it was time to adjust my dosage or eliminate the pills all together.  So far, the DOC has cut the dosage in half...just an idea ^_^

Start tracking your protein and water. This happened to me when I was 6 weeks postop, but I fell twice and broke my ankle in 2 places the second time I fell. The first time I fell, it was in a carpeted bedroom. The second time, was in a tiled kitchen. I was severely dehydrated and low on protein.

I had the same issue when I was fairly new out. I spoke to my PA and she said it was either from not getting enough water or simply just because your body is going through so many dramatic changes right now from the way your blood flows to your matabolism and just about everything else, so sometimes when you stand from sitting for a bit it takes a minute to even out. It did go away, I couldnt even tell you when...I dont think I ever really noticed. It does still happen once in a while, just try not to stand up too quickly

It could be blood sugar levels, blood pressure (to low in my case) not enought proteinn or fliuds...or it could be your body not getting enough complexed carbs.

I have this problem all the time and it is a number of things for me meds is #1 and blood pressure #2.

Talk to you Dr is the best asvise I can give.

Yeah what they all said.  All of them told you the same thing basically, watch tha****er, make sure you are having enough, and also maybe up your protein a little more.

Good luck, Diane

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. They all make sense and yes, I should see my doctor if it goes from being a little annoying to something worse.  I am going to track protein and water more carefully and I do take a med for blood pressure so that might be the culprit too.  I just like to avoid the doctor if I can, but I think I need to check in.

Cheers,
