Looking for a Primary Care Physician in East Bay Area

Hello Everyone,

I am searching for a good Primary Care Physician in the East Bay Area. Hayward, Castro Valley, Pleasanton, Dublin, Fremont, Union City, Newark, San Leandro, San Ramon.

I am scheduled for surgery on September 1, without my doctor of 15 years support. I have known for all these years I have struggled with my weight that she wasn't a big supporter of any tools for weight loss other than telling me to eat better and exercise.

I am a healthy person and typically only see my PCP once a year. I am searching for someone who is sensitive to weight loss issues and so far every doctor that has been recommended to me is closed to new patients.

I currently have Blue Cross PPO.

Any suggestions?!!??

Many thanks in advance.

Meg

I love my PCP. I don't know if she's taking new patients, but Palo Alto Medical Foundation is and they have a bariatric program so the PCPs tend to be supportive of WLS.

She's Dr. Barbara Boyer and I've been seeing her for 12 years and I adore her. She works out of the Fremont office.

THANK YOU! I will definitely try to look her up and see if she is taking new patients tomorrow. Fremont would be perfect because I am in South Hayward.

No, mine is kind of not the best.  So, really, I'm in the market for a new one, too.  I too have heard people rae about their PAMF doctors.  There is a new PAMF campus in Dublin.  I should check if the doc McM mentioned has office hours there.

I know exactly where the PAMF is in Dublin. My family lives in Pleasanton so I am there a lot. If I find a doctor, I will certainly let you know. My PCP is in Walnut Creek and I've been seeing her for 15 years but I am ready to give her up since she doesn't support my decision.

My PCP is Dr. Tien Lam in Walnut Creek.  He has a few wls patients so he is still learning, mainly from us, what our needs are but he is always willing to listen and is anxious to learn as much as he can.  He takes as much time as is needed during visits and when he gives me meds he will always ask if I have been told not to take that one since my surgery.  He is a very good doctor, very thorough.  I would recommend him to anyone.

Thank you! My current dr. is in Walnut Creek on Oakland Ave. I will definitely keep Dr. Lam in mind if I can't find anyone closer to Hayward.

Grace Chou, M.D., Affinity Medical Group in Pinole.  I specifically see Linda Scroggy, a nurse practitioner there.  My bariatric surgeons were Thinner Future in Burlingame and I had my surgery at Peninsula Hospital also in Burlingame.  They are a Center of Excellence which I truly believe made all the difference in my pre-op, surgery and my post-op care - looking back, the entire process was nothing short of amazing.  My surgeon is Barry Sanchez and he's wonderful, but Ive heard great things about Dr. Vedder and Pamela Foster  who are also a part of Thinner Future.  I bless the day I met Linda Scroggy, because after years of not finding doctors who would be proactive enough (let alone even listen to me) about my weight and the co-morbidities that were inevitably on their way, I found her and she is 7 years out of WLS herself (RnY).  So she really understood, and got the process moving right along.   I never looked back and know that meeting her was a turning point in my life.  Good Luck to you.
