An appology to the Hesperia group...

Ok, have to vent. Many of us went to an official support group meeting last night (this in not intended for our coffee group "meeting" before the meeting group). At the meeting we literally got ...... at for over an hour from our support group leader. This is not the first time and which is why many people who have attended have not returned.  Thought we were there for support.  Sorry my fellow OH friends who we have invited in hopes helping to keep us motivated and have chosen not to return to the formal meeting.  Glad to know you will all still be coming to our coffee group meeting before the meeting! Promise... no judgements there! Just open and honest conversation on what is working and not working for US!  Cant wait to see you at the next meeting before the meeting.

Sometimes we need tough love...and sometimes we need compassion and mercy.  Sounds like the support group leader hasn't found the balance.

Maybe you guys just need to meet and not have a group leader.  I miss our meetings down here, but I know that just talking to friends, that what I am feeling is normal, that my struggles are solvable.  I would hate taking the time to go to a meeting to get crap out of it. 

I sure don't have an answer for you, but I know I would be talking to the group leader and asking her or him to change their format.

I promise once you are feeling better, we'll start coffee up again.  Even if just a couple of us show up, that will be fine.  You just let me know when you have clearance from the docs to be out among the living again.

Glad you are home, and doing well.  Just hang in there.  Everyday will be a bit better than one before.

when you say "official" what do you mean? OH support group or one by your doctors office or hospital?

If your needing a good group for support you can take the classes thru OH and start your own group. Some areas have more than one group, all groups are different and therefore the diversity in each group.

I am sorry you had to go through that.  That is exactly why I only went to three meetings there they were all the same over and over again.  The gal that leads that group thinks she knows everything.  She does nothing to make people feel welcome.  Lets just stick to the meeting before the meeting.  I feel more comes out of that than anything else.  We can call it the High Desert Coffee if you want.  I like that.  I will be there each month so you can count on me.  Again I am sorry that you guys had to go through that.

And people can attend the High Desert Dinner which has been a monthly get together since January 2005.  As far as I know, no one has ever been made to feel uncomfortable and many good friendships have been formed.  Even though some of the regulars have changed the group still goes strong and helps each other get through the tough times and celebrates the good times.

The next High Desert Dinner is this Friday, 6:30 pm, at Richie's Diner in Victorville.  Sue Bee has posted this already and will probably repost it again.
