I did this post a few years back and it was fun
I work in community relations for a military base, specializing in environmental issues. I actually work for a contractor, although I've been in the same building at the same base for 18 years. (Contractor = slime in a lot of peoples' eyes).
I write newspaper articles, maintain part of the web site, plan and execute outreach events like public meetings.
I've been doing this particular job for 15 years and I am soooo ready to do something else. I'd love to become a government employee, but because I have no active duty military experience it's difficult to get a govt job here.
I don't want to be any more specific because once on the web, things are here forever. (I can still find snarky comments I made about my then employer's promotion practices on a writing mailing list i***** using Google. Who knew then we'd be able to do su*****redible searches? Edit to add: everywhere but OH!! LOL!)

I have been employed on and off in the horse racing industry, which is my true passion in life, since 1976. I currently work for the Horse Racing Commission in Oklahoma (state job, great bene's barely livable salary though and I'm an easy keeper!). I love my job, the office staff is great and it's never a horrid place to have to be! I know I'm lucky lucky lucky in that regard......
BUT I have the incredible need and desire to move back to Southern CA, specifically the Arcadia area, where Santa Anita is, and work there. I have been employed by the track as well as private contractors that work at the track, (in the photography field, broadcasting, customer service) as well as being a horse trainer among other hands-on positions.
I know this is a HORRID time to be searching for a new job, especially when I have a lovely home here in the OKC area but I find it hard to resist the urge to move, even without a job lined up. I guess the sale of my house will dictate whether I will do just that, or not. And so far, no takers. So perhaps that's a hint that it will happen when/if it's supposed to.
Doesn't make me happy though.
Boo hoo, right?
Thanks for this thread.
Hmmm, I have been disabled for almost 5 1/2 years. Hate, hate, hate it. But there is no cure for Interstitial Cystitis. I am doing much better than I was but still not well enough to go back to full time employment. However, I was a truck driver for 10 years, Bartender for 9 years and a food and beverage manager for 4 of those 9 years. I started work at the age of 13 for my Mother in her restaurant. And the last 4 years I was working I was a traveling photographer working in CA,NV,NM,and AZ, I love love loved that job and would have stayed in that field if I had not gotten sick. Before I started working as a photographer I was a bartender/hostess of a brothel in NV...yes, it is a long story of how I ended up doing that but it was interesting work to say the least.LOL
I have never been one to stay put at anyone job or location for that matter. This is the longest I have lived in one place in my adult life and I have been here for 5 1/2 years. Some days it is very hard for me not to pack up and just go but ...I can't do that for now anyway.
What I would love to do is get my degree in Art/ Design ...I love doing interior design as some of you already know.
