EKG showed I had a heart attack, I never knew it. My RNY surgery was scheduled for 8-31-09. Had to cancel, cardiologist wants to do echo and stress test to see damage. Has anybody had this and then they were still allowed surgery.  I'm also a diabetic, the cardiologist said diabetics are prone to silent heart attacks. I am so bummed I was getting so excited about the surgery. I know its better than being dead, I've just been waiting so long, it's one thing after another.

I have never gone through anything like this, but I just wanted to let you know that I am sorry to hear your surgery has been canceled at this time, but I would look at it as being delayed, not canceled..

Keep us posted...

Hugs, Michele

I have heard of silent heart attacks.  Thank God they found it.  Work on getting past this and then you can have your surgery.  I understand that you are disappointed, but it will all work out. Get better soon!

Thanks for  being so supportive, my mom didn't get a second chance and she died at 43. I'm 46 and am really glad the doctors saw a problem and are going to help me. So I am very grateful for the pre-op procedures. If it weren't for them I would not have know I have a heart condition.

Thanks again for being there.

I had a heart attack and double heart bypass 6 years before my RNY.  They still went through with it.  Had to get the OK from the cardiologist, PCP, and surgeon.  Hang in there...Jump through their hoops (they like to cover their backside)...and hopefully you'll be getting that surgery real soon.  Brian

oh my goodness.
my Father in law found out that he'd had that too, but it was found AFTER he had a major surgery!  he'd had trouble in the OR and hhey monitored him in ICU longer than normal then sent for a angio gram which revealed the damages. they estaimated he'd been that way 7-9 years. can you imagine?
anyway he's ok and has gone on to other surery's for his leg veins without trouble.

i think they are just double checking you, which is good!

I was found to have had a silent heart attack also...it was found at the time of my pre-op EKG.  My surgery was put on hold until I was cleared by the cardiologist.  It was a 3 week wait that included 3 more EKGs and a treadmill test.  I now see a cardiologist regularly, (I recently had a cardiac CT angiogram) take a pill to keep the stress off my heart muscles and all is well!
I am also still a diabetic...the WLS did not diminish mine, I am still on some meds including a lower dose of insulin.
Best wishes

This is really scary for you, i know.  I have a similar situation.  I had a mini stroke while on the back of my bf motorcycle.  My mother died of a heartattack at 57 and I just turned 51.  In about 8 weeks I had all but one of my co morbidities spring up.  I am currently taking 10-12 pills a day for hypertension, diabetes, peripheral artery disease, hi cholestoral, anxiety and inflamation.  between the side effects of the meds, my arthritis in my knees I can't exercise enough to get the cardio up to burn the calories to get the weight down.  Hence medical necessity for wls.  I am currently fighting my insurance company to get them to cover it.

I hope all works out for you and your surgery is just delayed and you get clearence very soon
