hey guys.  I think I have a problem w vicodin since my surgery last november.  I have severe menstrual cycles and was prescribed vicodin for that and then felt like I needed it for daily functioning. I tried to stop taking it and then had some pain for other things and took motrin like a dummy and ended up back in surgery for ulcer and then back on vicodin.  I usually only take 3 a day but I am doing it daily and am now out and I refuse to go back to my dr, to get more but I feel so anxious and ashamed right now that it makes me want more.  Has anyone else experienced this problem.  Please advise.

Thanks
Michelle

You really need to set aside whatever feelings you might have talk to your doctor about all of this. There might be something more suitable for you to take than vicodin.

Hi Michelle,

Are you taking Vicodin in between your cycles or just during your cycles?  I had extreme cramps and I was prescribed Darvocet and Vicodin. I needed to take those on a daily basis during my cycle just to function. I subsequently had a hysterectomy because it got soo bad.

If you are taking them daily and it's not for your ulcer or your cycle, I would talk to your doctor or some other type of counselor. It's not healthy to be addicted to Vicodin.  My best friend's sister was addicted to Vicodin for a short period of time after her cancer bout and it was pretty difficult.  You should seek help immediately if that's the case.

Very easy for us to transfer our food addiction to something else, and it sounds like yours are Rx drugs.  You need to go and talk to you doctor.  It's important that he understand you are having a problem with wanting to take them.  If we don't tell doctors our problem they can't help us.  I had the same problem, I was taking them because I was happier with them, and it got rid of my pain.  I recognized my problem and that was it.  I take pills now for my back pain and I am hoping that when this ordeal is over for me, that I will be done with pain meds.

            Wishing you the best.

Vicodin is very addictive for many people with WLS or Not... You need to talk to your Dr about right away. I am on daily pain medication for a number of conditions and vicodin is meant for short term pain...not for pain management. But if you are using it even when you are not in pain you need to get some help and the sooner the better. And by the way there is nothing to be ashamed of either...This happen to a lot of people  from ever walk of life. I had a friend that couldn't get her kids off to school without vicodin in the morning and she was taking 15-20 tablets everyday !!!
When I first became disabled they tried to put me on it but it made me feel so horrible...crying all the time and inching that was unbearable...
Sweetie, I wish you luck and will pray that you can get this under control ((((hugs)))) Oh and you should talk to your Dr about why you have such terrible cramps. I did too and would have to take Darvocet (sp) for mine every month.
