Back to School for Me!

I started my first class tonight at the local Community College. It's been about 12 years since I was a full-time student. I used to work in the mortgage business (ran the optional insurance program for years until the moved the business to Texas) and became a stay at home to my one kiddo (who starts school next week as 1st grader).

I have an AS in Biological and Physical Sciences and I decided that I'm going to use my biology background and I'm going into nursing.  I'm excited and scared at the same time.

I did have to talk to my teacher tonight after class to let her know that I may have to run out of class if I'm having TMI issues because of the surgery and she told me she had the RNY about 9 years ago and she lost 250lbs! WoW!  She totally understood my situation and she was like if you are feeling bad, just hop out of class, no questions asked. It was nice :)

The nursing class that I start on Thursday only accepts 40 students out of about 250 students enrolled. The top 40 gets in. I soo am going to ace this class, I have to!  It's a lot of pressure, but I think I can do it.

I'd just thought I'd share since I really haven't shared much about me so far :) I'm really enjoying this Cali board. Lots of friendly folks on here!

You go girl!  Hey my husband went back to school and just graduated from UC Berkeley at the age of 54!  He is probably going to go on for his MA in Education while he is doing some internships.  You're never too old!

You're going to do great.

Hugs,
Barb

Good for you.  What a great accomplishment you will achieve when this is all over. Pretty funny that your teacher had bypass too, it's amazing how many people have had it, and there is never nothing said until someone makes a comment.  Doug and I ran into two couples wine tasting and both the men had surgery over 10 years ago, and they both looked great!

Congrats.....go get em girl!

Hugs, Diane

Thanks Diane,

I totally agree with you. It really made me think that there are more folks than I probably know around me that has had the surgery, but you just don't know them personally.

Good for you.  I am seriously considering returning to school myself.

Without struggle, there is no progress.

I would really like to obtain my nursing degree, but the only place I can go to is Mount St. Mary's College.  They have classes at night and the clinicals on the weekends.
Without struggle, there is no progress.
