I have my appt with Dr. Casillas at West LA on Tue Sept 8th, but i know this is a fairly new facility doing bariatric surgery. I was wondering if anyone has hd their surgery there with Dr Casillas, and what their experience was like?

Hi Lori!

How soon after your consult did you have your surgery ? Im a little nervous about having surgery, and since the day  i got approval from my dr on the 18th of august,  i have found myself very nervous about the whole surgery and eating things i shouldnt here and there. im worried ive gained a few pounds since then and that when i see dr casillas hes going to say something.

I am having my VSG there on the 14Th of this month. I had my consult on the 27Th of August and he offered me 3 dates the 9Th, 14Th and 18Th. I was very impressed with how organized everyone was. I went in for a consult and and wound up getting my date and pre-op done all in that one visit. Also one of the ladies I went through options with had her surgery there and she could not have been happier. She was admitted in the morning of surgery and went home the next evening. I am pretty she was seen by Dr. Casillas. I hope this helped you and good luck

I will be seeing Dr. Khayat. He was very nice and answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns. According to his profile on kp.org he is fairly new to kaiser but he said he had performed this surgery 200 times. Try not to worry about your weight because you will only stress yourself out and that makes gaining a whole lot easier. I actually gained during my options classes and was expecting to have hell to pay when I went to W. LA but it was actually the opposite. Dr. Khayat said he would do the surgery that day if he could and if I wanted to try to loose any before the surgery it would help with shrinking my liver but he did not require a specific amount. He said that when you lose 10 -15 pounds it is mostly from the liver and that makes the procedure a lot easier for them. Good luck and don't worry yourself sick. Remember you are doing this to get healthy.
