You are so right, better late than never.  It will be so different from here on out.  A cancer scare is horrible.  My younger sister had a few little bumps on her face, and they ended up doing surgery on it.  The doctor didnt have to go too deep, but from her eyes to her lips she had stitches.  Years ago, my sister and I would see who could get the darkest in the sun.  We would be in the sun from 8 in the morning till 4 or 5 in the evening, and we were in Lake Arrowhead, were there is less of an ozone layer to protect us from the sun,  Stupid stupid us!!!!  Now we are aware of any little thing.  Being tan is just not that important at all.

Your dad and you will be in my prayers and you and him, make the very best of the times ahead.

Love and hugs Becky.  D

My dad has had skin cancer removed from his face for years and more times than I can count, but this was a shocker and he was unprepared!  Thank God I've never been much of a sun worshipper.  I like everyone else would love to have the healthy glow of a tan, but it's soooo not worth it!
Thanks for the prayers honey and though the new relationship is wierd, I am grateful for it!!!

love and bigg huggs back at ya

Hey Becky...very apropro post this morning with all of us facing the Labor Day weekend.  I'm sure with the heat wave we're in, everyone is thinking water, sunshine and fun.  I had skin cancer when I was 12...right in the eyebrow and while I now have a permanent arch to my brow, I always wear a hat when out walking and haven't been sunbathing since my teen years LOL  My husband last February had a mole removed that turned out to be a melanoma...got the 6" scar as a battle wound :-(  Doc told him it probably had been 'brewing' since he was a teenager...getting that annual sun tan and working outdoor on his brothers cattle ranch.  Unfortunately, we never thought about medical issues when we were young..we were going to live forever!

I'm happy to hear your family is bridging the gap...it is just too bad that reality has to step in to remind us that life is short and time wasted on petty grievences or past hurts can't be gotten back.  You should be proud of your dad for stepping up and admitting how he felt...a whole lot of men would never be able to do it...even when family is the one thing they want most....so sad :=-(

I love the new avatar, btw!  I can see you are keeping the Nag Queen away by getting one up....hopefully she'll stay busy this weekend and not notice that I'm due for an update myself LOL
Have a great 3day weekend!
Hugs

Didn't even think about the 3 day weekend, it was good timing.

Skin cancer seems so simple but can be very serious stuff. Glad I never really liked the sun much!
Thanks for the family issues and yes it great to see men being "real" and showing emotions. I'm glad it's coming out now and hope it continues to get better, for whatever reason.

thanks for the avatar comments, yep, trying to keep her off my butt for sure!!!! lmao

Thank you for your wise words.  I am of Italian descent but from the North.  Therefore, I am very fair skinned and not olive complected like others.  I have been teased all of my life.  I will take the teasing over the alternative.  My sister has had 3 cancers removed from her arm.

I will keep you and your dad in my thoughts for a positive outcome to the raditation and that your dad lives a long and happy life.

Enjoy him while you have him!!

I too have been teased a lot for my "whiteness" but oh well. I guess my being fat was a blessing for making me hate the sun and sweating! lol  I burn so easily, that I just don't chance it!

thanks for the positive thoughts and prayers for the radiation, I hope it isn't too bad!       bigg huggs

Just a note about the sunscreen...I have a 85 SPF also.  It is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock, 85 SPF.  It is rated one of the best by GH and very affordable. Unscented also.
I live my life in fear of Malignant Melonoma (one of several cancers I have had) reoccurance...I only recently felt brave enough to think about updating my derma-checks.  They can be quite intimidating when one is overweight.  I spent several years avoiding them, but with Becky's message, I will be brave and make an appt.
Best wishes and God speed on your dads treatment and recovery, Becky...

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad.  How scary.  I will keep him in my prayers.  We all need to appreciate every day we have here, because tomorrow is NEVER guaranteed.  Take care my friend
