Didn't pass psychological evaluation
Was wondering if anyone else had trouble getting pass the psychological evaluation of the process. The Dr. told me I suffered from major depression from other factors in addition to my weight issues and said I had to seek therapy, and when the time came that I was making progress, that the therapist would have to let her know and she would evaluate me again. She said she would submit my approval if she felt I had made progess, but for now she said she wasn't going to recommend the procedure, although she agreed I could greatly benefit from the surgery. I am so devasted by this news.
I'm thinking I should just try weigh****chers again for the 100th time :'(

Please don't give up. Know that your health care provider and the psych want the very best for you and ultimately want you to have the surgery, they just want you to be in the best shape mentally and physically to be successful.
I know of several people who didn't pass one of the tests on their journey but they didn't give up, they worked through it an eventually had surgery.
We all have our issues with food whatever they may be, but we do need to begin to understand them so that we can deal with them post surgery. As has been said many times before, they operate on your stomach, not your head. So even with surgery, the issues that made us overweight prior to WLS will be there again after, it's how we deal with them.
I would urge you to call the psych back and begin working with him/her to tackle head on the issues that kept you from getting approved. It may only take a couple of sessions and then you'd be on your way.
I will hold you in my prayers and think good thoughts. We're all here to support you along the way.
Hugs,
Barb
I know you feel devasted by the news; however, it is most likely that you will benefit from the end result. I am sending you hugs and strength to help you get through this tough time and wishing you the best!

It sure is good C'ING LESS OF ME!
We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they
ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Get into therapy so you're mentally ready and in the meantime eat healthy and get fresh air and exercise it does wonders for your mind.
you don't want to transfer food problems into other addictions later, which is why you need tofix it now.

Hang in there....we are all here for you too, so please don't be shy.
Hugs to you Roberta, Diane
I'm so sorry Roberta, I know this news really sucks when you have your heart set on something.
Please take this as an opportunity to get a jump start on making yourself healthy from the inside out. Dealing with your depression NOW will only make your weight loss journey that more effective and sucessful. So often people go thru this process expecting that it will be a cure-all for the other issues in their life.
Instead, what often happens is that the weight comes off and it reveals a whole mess of underlying issues that need to be addressed. If you choose to ignore them they will not go away. Don't give up hope...and don't give up on fighting for the better life you want for yourself.
Hugs,
Roberta
