starting diet before surgery what dietary drinks  have some of you used to replace your meals? Do you drink these protein drinks and are you suppose to fill you up? these might sound like  dumb questions but i don't have a clue . to all my new coffee friends i got my surgery date 10\21\09. say a prayer for me that nothing else comes up to postpone it again

Ok I am a bit confused, are you on a diet before surgery per your doctor?  Are you asking us if we drink protein drinks and yes they fill you up.  Just clear it up for me and I will be glad to fill ya in.

Thanks, Diane

Patsy,
Congrats on your surgery date!!  I drank protein drinks before my surgery (about two weeks before, I think).  They do fill you up.  And don't hesitate to ask questions.  We have all had similar ones or even "dumber" ones.  There really aren't any dumb questions. So ask away!

I didn't use protein shakes before my surgery, but I ate foods similar to what gastric bypass patients eat at around 6 months out.  I did eat some foods I knew I wouldn't be eating again forever or a long time like popcorn.

Are you on a diet prescribed by your nutritionist or are you doing this on your own to adjust to how you will be eating after surgery? My advice is to meet with the nutritionist if you haven't yet. Your surgeon should have a nutritionist as part of their team for their WLS patients.

Congratulations on a having a date for surgery.  Ask a lot of questions.  I am around 15 weeks out and have asked many questions on this forum and the help I've received has been awesome.
