In Northern Cal, Kaiser doesn't cover plastics...it is an out-of-pocket expense.

Not entirely true - According to the information I received in orientation & one of the support groups, it can be covered, if deemed medically necessary.  It's not easy to do, but it has happened.  You have to be having substantial rashes or infections from the skin folds, from what I understand.

It's not a tummy tuck that they do, but a panniculectomy.....or something like that; where they remove the panis.  My doc said that once I reach my goal weight, he'd send me to have my panis removed.  I heard the same thing as Wildewoman, about Kaiser and their requirements.  But if he's going to send me, I'm not going to argue.

Ok so my doctor said it like it was no big deal...."Once you lost 100 lbs I will send over the paper work. If your panni hangs enough your covered! I said what about rashes ect. He claims that was not a factor.
I am planning to pay out of pocket on Decembr 11,2009, but thought that if I could get Kaiser to pay at least tihs life would be good ya know?

if the doc is gonna send the paperwork, just take it in stride.  Hopefully everything goes good for you.

They may pay for the removal of the excess skin if it hangs over your private parts, that is usually what the insurance companies require, but I don't know about Kaiser.  I have lost close to 170, my insurance will pay for the skin removal but will not pay for a tummy tuck, they will just remove the skin.

Good luck.

The plastic surgeon I saw said my apron (pannis) would be no problem but that I had to get to under 200 and under 30 bmi and be there for one year.  I want my thighs done and he said that is going to be a fight. Good luck.
