Cough

What do you guys use when you get a cough?  I am afraid to suck on a cough drop.  What is good?

As you will hear over and over, always consult your surgeon, however, they do make sugar free cough drops and you can use them.  As for cough medicine, you just had your surgery, so again, you really need to ask your surgeon.  If you have a cough now, however, you want to let your doctor know asap, because you could have an infection that needs antibiotic treatment.  Once you are further out from surgery, however, Robitussin or Nyquil can be used with no problem, although Nyquil does have an alcohol content and may upset your pouch.

Stephanie gave you a the best advice but I wanted to set your mind at ease and let you know I too had a cough and actually coughed up a little blood while in the hospital.  The nurse said the nasal gastric tube can cause irritation and sometimes cought, but it was good that I told her.

Thanks everyone, I actually don't have a cough right now.  But since I live in the Central Valley my allergies are always acting up so I was asking in advance.  I went to my post-op appointment today and forgot to ask my doc.  My appointment went well and I am doing great.  Tomorrow I get to start on "mushy food".  I can't wait.   

The young women who took out my staples was so sweet, I told Dr. Swartz that he needed to give her a raise.
