Hullo!

 Hi there!

My year anniversary has come and gone. July 28th 2008. I can't believe how much has changed in my life. I was tipping the scales at 548 pounds and now I'm down to 306. I've had some sorrows along the way as well: divorcing and my mother died this past August.  I've also moved and my 5 year old has started kindergarten. Holy cheese whiz! When it rains, it pours!

Any road, I was hoping someone could recommend an affordable health insurance to me. I lost my original coverage after my husband and I seperated. So here I am, adrift on uncertain waters, not sure which way to go. So if anyone out there as some suggestions, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks!

I agree with Barb, you have come to the right place and Barb is one of the best!  Congratulations on your 306 lbs weight loss!  I am so sorry this has been such a tough year for you.  I really don't know anything about health insurance so I can't give you any advice there, but I can give you encouragement.  Just keep hanging in there eventually things will start to come together.

Hello and I have to agree with the others that you have come to the right place for support.  I wish you the best and send you strength through this post to help you get back on track.  Sorry I cannot help with the insurance as I went through Kaiser.

I know the problems of finding info on health insurance.  I am in the process now of trying to find someone and my husband is calling his work to see what is available for me.  I am  not of medicare age yet and the doctor has not determined if I will be disabled at all from my most recent surgery, so I am out looking.  So far I have found when I told them I have had gastric bypass, they treat you like a hot potatoe and dont even want to talk to you, but I will keep you advised.

Also welcome to the boards.   Diane

Just a thought, if you haven't legally divorced, I don't think he can take you off of the insurance, but I would consult your family law office in the county where you live.  Also, if they did remove you from insurance, you would be eligible for COBRA coverage.  While it is expensive it might be cheaper than buying our own health care on your own.  Finally, you might consult with the Dept of Managed Health for the State of Cali to see if they can point you in the right direction.  I have some friends who bought health insurance through Kaiser because it was the most afforable.

I hope these things will help.
