Hey everyone,

I hope all is well with you.  I'm doing some research and I'm wondering if anyone has had surgery with this doc or knows anything about him.  I recently lost my Kaiser and I'm currently on Medicare so I've been searching and searching for Medicare-friendly docs, and I found him at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland.  The rep I spoke with verified that he DOES take Medicare and that Alta Bates is a center of excellence.  The one thing that doesn't set very well with me (other that the fact that Alta Bates bariatrics doesn't do the type of wls I was hoping for) is the short length of time (5 years) he's been doing wls.  Am I being too much of a snob in thinking this way?  Back when I had Kaiser, I had my heart set on a DS with Dr. Rabkin...and he definitely has more than 5 years under his belt.  Does anyone know anything about Dr. Upadhyay?

Be safe and well, B.B.

Well, I'm pretty sure he doesn't do the DS, for starters. He also doesn't do bariatrics full time. So that means his 5 years of experience is less than some other doc with 5 full years of bariatric surgeries.

I looked into him when I was first researching surgery and decided he wasn't experienced enough for me. I do know someone who used him for her band and says he's the sweetest guy.

Thank you so much for the info.  I feel so desperate to have surgery, but I'm trying HARD to use my head with this.  Oakland is so close to where I live in SF (and I can access it via public trans -- I don't drive).  I wish I could afford to pay for Dr. Rabkin out of pocket, but that's a pipe dream.

Be safe and well, B.B.
