Found My Way - Day 5

Well I have made it through another day, and I'm still doing great.  It is almost enticing to see what obstacles I can overcome each day.  Today I was really busy in the morning and didn't have time to eat before I had some PTA ladies come over, so by the time they left I was shakey and had to eat a protein bar.   Then I took my daughters down to the 5th Grade Class BBQ Fundraiser to show our support, and they had a huge Bake Sale Table.  I donated money but did not eat a thing.  They ran out of BBQ tickets so we didn't get to eat.  Instead of giving in to the cookies and brownies, we went across the street to a new Fresh & Easy Grocery Store and bought some sliced apples, low fat turkey slices, fat free yogurt and we had a little picnic in the car.  It was fun and creative and I felt great afterwards.

Had an enjoyable evening, made some grilled chicken for dinner and then encouraged the entire family to go on a 1 1/2 mile walk after dinner.  Kids are tired and will sleep good and I feel good.  During the walk my daughter and I talked alot about making better choices and having treats in moderation, just not every day.  She seems encouraged and wants to keep it up.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and treats each day like a new beginning.

I am impressed with the progress just after 5 days. It seems like you're very committed to using your tool to live a healthier life.  I inspired with your story of finding an alternative to indulging in the food that was available. Wow!

I was at a banquet dinner last night and resisted all dessert even though it was right in front of me and everyone else at my table was eating tons of sugary foods. What's funny is I didn't even feel deprieved. It was great.

There is a great book I read recently called "The End of Overeating." The first part is a bit dense explaining scientific results on what happens in our brain when we crave sugary and fatty foods. It explains why it's so hard to resist these types of food once our brain starts craving them.  It also says what we can do to turn our brains off so we don't get to the point of no return. While you're doing great, I figure the more tools in our arsenal to stamp out being unhealthy, the better.
