Hi everyone.  It has been a week since my surgery.  I had surgery last monday got home on wed.  I have had the worse gas pains since the moment I woke up.  I have been walking, walking and walking some more to get it moving so I can get some relief.  Soon as I get it iout more builds up.  i saw my primary DR on friday who gave me some chew tablets for it but they dont really help.  How long does this gas last?  My belly is so bloated from it.  the gas is definately the most painful more than my incisions.

I have been tollerating my food well except for my protien shakes.  I have been using the EAS brand.  I feel sick when I drink it.  I have tried stirring it instead of blending it to avoid the gas, sipping slowly etc. but it still makes me not feel good when I drink it.  The food on the stage two diet is very tollerable just not the protien drinks.  Any Ideas?????
Thank you

Unfortunately, I have no advice on what to do about the gas...I didn't have that problem.  I know the walking was suppose to help. My only suggestion on the Protein drink is try another brand.  VitaLady.com sells samples for about $2 a sample (on line).  I mix my protein with soy milk...didn't tolerate the mixing with water very well.  I use IDSsport protein powder, their Belgian Chocolate.  Again, didn't tolerate Walmart or Costco's brand..

Other than that, I do want to welcome you to the Cali Board and congratulate you on your surgery!  Hopefully, time will take care of the gas issue and as you move thru the food stages, your tolarence will get better.  Come back often and post...we're here to help and support you all we can!

I had and still have a really hard time with the protein drinks.  It would cause me gas horribly, and like I said it still does, even protein bars do the same.  Try and wein yourself off of them or just stop them and try getting all the protein you can from your foods.  When you get to the soft food stage you should be able to do it more easily.  Try getting some protein bullets.  They really give you alot of protein for 3 swallows.  I know that Costco has some, and the Vitamin Shoppe, and GNC do.  See if those help.  I never suffered gas with them

If there is anything else, just post we are here and welcome to the boards.

Hi diane thank you for responding.  I did have a bullet and it wnt done smooth no problems.  Kaiser told us WLS people in the program to use them as a last resort since they dont have as much protien as needed So I have avoided it.  I am going to go buy more cause they seem to be ok from what others tell me.  I need to serch out a vitamin shoppe cause everyone is telling me about this place.
Thank you thank you

I do get a protein powder from there and I use something called Hood chocolate drink, which is NOT a milk product...you may be becoming intolarant of milk.  I didn't know that Kaiser didn't say to have those, but if you do, don't take them instead of a meal, use them for your protein, 3 a day should be close to 90 grams of it.  More than enough.  Let me know if you need anything else......

What problems I had with gas, my walking alleviated for me, so I don't have any other advice for helping to get rid of it. As far as the protein shakes go...I can't tolerate ANY shake type of drink, with the exception of one. Someone else recommended it to me and I am sooooo glad they did! I found it at The Vitamin Shoppe and it's called Syntrax Nectar Lemon Tea flavor protein mix. Each scoop has 23 grams of protein and I mix it with 12 oz. of water, since it's a little too strong for me with just 8 oz. I add one packet of splenda to that and it's just like having lemon flavored tea for me! I could almost overdose on that drink...LOL. I have tried the Oh Yeah protein drinks, the Atkins and Pure Protein or Premium Protein (don't remember the exact name) and they ALL made me so sick...oh gosh, I wanted to die it seemed like.

I do want wish you congrats on the surgery and for continued success! I do hope you get some alleviation from the gas soon as well. See you around!

I am sorry I can't help with the gas problem either, but I can tell you I had a real tough time with the protien shakes. I did find one that I really enjoy, in fact it is part of my daily intake I drink one for breakfast and one for lunch. Then eat what I can and want for dinner.

It Called World Wide Pure Protien Shake. It comes in lots of flavors, I like Chocolate, Banna, & Vanilla, but there are allot more. There is no gas from these shakes, they contain 35 grams of protien per 12 oz can. You can get it at GNC, Vitamin Shoppee, Trader Joe's or lookn them up at

Good Luck,

Hey Nancy,

Yeah I am still around, I have been traveling so much in the last 6 months for work. I have not had allott of time to log in. But I can't forget the people who supported me, so I try to come back now and then and shed a few words of wisdom when I can.

Lots Of Love
