Almost 3 weeks post! Feel Good! Sleep?
Being a male had surgery on 9-14 rny! started at 330lbs and have now broke 279! 51 pounds! Been eating pureed tuna, eggs, soup, protein shakes, sf fudge bars, sf pudding! Even had the flu last week lots of coughing...OUCH! can anyone sleep on their side yet? It feels weird and I can only sleep on my back for now. Not getting much sleep! Any ideas? Thanks
First a big congratulations and you are doing awesome with your eating and weight loss so far. As for the sleeping on your side, if you had your RNY laproscopically, as I did, I think I was able to lie on my side about a month after surgery maybe a little less. Be patient with that because it will come especially with the weight coming off. That helps with the pulling that occurs when you try to lie on your side. If you didn't have lap, well it might take a bit longer. You need for the incision area to heal up a bit. Alot of people who have had both lap and open sleep in a recliner for a time after surgery. I never did at night but certainly did during the day while I was home recuperating.
I had a different surgical procedure this past March and it was a full abdominal cut. What I did was get myself a foam type of wedge the I lied back against. Put my pillow behind my head and then got one of the travel type neck pillows. You know, the ones that wrap around the back of your neck. I would use that and I found I was able to sleep fairly well until I could comfortably lie down again. I was actually able to sleep on my side about 2 weeks after surgery for this one.
Just keep doing what you are doing and you'll be back to normal sleep patterns really soon.

Congratulations on your weight loss and doing so well. The sleeping on your side will come with time. I slept in a recliner for probably the first week and then propped up on pillows on my back. One day you'll just feel comfortable enough to do it but be patient it will happen.
Great job again!

Congratulations on having your surgery! You will find this was the best decision of your life ^_^ I have to agree with Barb and Steph...I slept in my recliner for about a month...sleeping in a bed was just too uncomfortable. And sleeping on my side was out of the question, especially the left side where the largest incision was made. I did find that proping up with several pillows on the couch, I was able to sleep semi-reclined on my back...gave me the opportunity to 'stretch out' the legs and also take the pressure off the thighs for a while.
Sure hope you have gotten over the flu...for me, that would be worse than recouping from surgery. I hate feeling yucky! Just be sure to keep getting your protein, vitamins and fluids in daily...obviously, you are doing Fantabulous!!
Hope to 'see' you around more often..this is the greatest place for support and encouragement...not to speak of answers ^_^
