Hi there! I am new to this website. It was recommended to me, by some friends and through my Kaiser options class.I have been a visitor for awhile adn finally decided to set it up. I don't no too much about these fancy webby things, but im gonna try my best. I tried to set up my profile, I don't know if it worked or not. I just have a few questions for y'all. What is the difference in the distal and proximal rny? Peple are talking about it in my class and I have no idear what they are talkin about. I am confused about the sleeve too. What is that? Sounds like somthin I find on my blouse! My name is Rebecca, or Becca. I live in Victorville, California. I heard that some people talk about support groups, but going to one is Fontana is a little far for me twice a week. Is there one up here that anyone knows about? thank you

Hi Becca,

Rhonda here!  Welcome to the boards!  We need more high desert people on here!  There are a couple of great groups up here.  We have the High Desert Dinner group and we also have the Hesperia Meeting before the meeting group.  I have not a clue to your questions bu there are people on here that can answer it.    I love what you say about the Drama and stargihgt shooting.  If that is what your are really looking for that is what you will find on these boards.  There are a great bunch of people here.  There is some drama if you want me to be honest but you will figure out who/what /where quite  quickly and just leave it alone!  Glad you are here and welcome.

Howdy Rhonda, I guess I pushed the wrong reply button. It sure does get confusing in these parts! I sent the message I hope you get it.

Why thank you, Rhonda, for the howdy do! I am a straight shooter, tell 'em like it is kind of gal! I was raised the old way. Respect, manners, and keep yer mouth shut! HAHAHA. Most people don't appreciate my sense of humor or my straight fowardness. But ya know, life is too short for other people's drama. I may poke around fer a little while, and have my say when I have it. But could ya tell me some more info on the groups you are talking about. Where do they meet and such?  Thank ya, honey!

My classes are on Fridays at 930am. My classes end on December 4th but don't worry they fly by. I still can't believe that I only have 3 classes left. The classes go over the surgeries they will do and then they go over them again and again. They want to make sure you make an informed decision. I have found the classes a huge help and this board is just another way to find out how it is in real life.

Well keep in touch and talk to you soon.

Nathalie :)

Hi Rebecca,

Welcome to the Cali Board and thank you for letting us share your journey with you.  You will love living this healthier new lifestyle and it's going to be a great ride.  You're among great company on this board, both northern and southern Cali friends are as nice as you'll ever find them.  Go to the get togethers and be a part of our family, it's really SO much fun.

We're all here for you as you proceed through things, so feel free to ask questions, voice frustrations, or give thanks, we pretty much do it all!

Welcome again,
Barb

Hi Barb!

Thank you for your kind words and I really hope I get to meet some nice people. I sure could use the support. I feel like I am so dumb, I know the classes I am going to will help, but its so slow. This seems like a big bunch of friends. I am looking forward to attending a get together or two, soon.

Hi Rebecca,

Welcome to the Cali board. I also went through Kaiser classes in Fontana, and I live up in the high desert, too. I actually live in Hesperia. I can explain a little about the distal and proximal RN
Y. A lot of doctors believe that if you do a distal (which is reattach the intestine at a lower part to itself), that it will help with better management with diabetes, especially, and other co-morbidities. That has been shown to be untrue. I know when I went through my information seminars, with Crown and Pacific (which are two surgery centers that Kaiser uses), they both don't use the distal RNY. Proximal is just oppisite of the distal.
I am sorry I can not give you information on the sleeve. I hope this helps.
You will find plenty of support and some wonderful people on this board. There are quite a few support groups, as well as monthly social gatherings. If you ever need any help, don't be afraid to ask or post. We will help, as best as we can. Have a wonderful day!

Friendship & Support,

Michelle T.
