New Here!

Hello,
I'm new to this site and am in the process of getting approved for my first surgery.  I am looking at gastric bypass surgery.  I have HMO insurance thru PacifiCare in Cal.  My concerns are regarding hair loss, illnesses, pregnancy (if I still can after the surgery), and the aftermath.  I really don't have the financial means to spend any additional money should I need lifts and tucks and the such.  I'm a large individual at 295lbs and am 31 years old.  I have battled with my weight my whole life trying different fad diets and other means that I wasn't very proud of.
I am now trying to take back my life as I am finding myself more unhappy about what I have let myself become physically.  I know I am a beautiful person and would love to show the world that my beauty spreads from the inside out.
Can anyone offer any information regarding this surgery.  And words of advise?  I would appreciate anything, anyone has to offer.  Thank you for the time to learn.

Mari

Welcome to the boards!

My advice to you is to talk to as many people as possible and continue reading many people's profiles.  Also, participate in a support group.

My RNY knowledge did not happen over night.  It took time to truly understand the dynamics of it and how it works with everyone because everyone is different.

Everyone has their ups and downs.....Check out my profile.

In a nut shell....I don't regret having RNY at all.

Welcome welcome welcome. I'm pretty new here myself. Frustrated that I can't navigate this site with more ease, but keeping my digits crossed. Mir Ali, MD was my surgeon, even through my profile says LePort. One of the things I'm trying to update/change. I had gastric bypass on 9/8/09. Adjusting to the process. Hair loss, take your supplements, they will help. Also support group folks have a lot of info on this. I go on Monday nights. Prenancy not recommended until 18mons post-op but life happens. I'm not even thinking about plastic surgery, so far off and I will be thrilled to have sags and bags. Better than stuffed sausage look I have been living with.

Best of luck to you and again, WELCOME!
Don't mess with womyn/dragons for you are crunchy and good with reduced fat honey mustard on the side...

Howdy Mari!  I am new here too. I have one word of caution. Some of the people on this here site aren't very nice. I asked some questions and they attacked me and my style of writin. There are others that were as nice as can be. They were callin out an all out shin-ding on me, jus causin I wasnt askin the questions they thought i should be. I wishin you  lots of luck and we will be learnin together.

You know what Becca - don't call outpeople for something youhave brought on.  most of us that went to normal schools were taught how to write .  No matter how you "talk" you can write in a nornmal vocabulary.  Don't scare off the newbies - we are all a great group of people and until you have been around a while and get to know us - DO NOT THROW THOSE STONES TO THE NEW PEOPLE.  Further nore - no one attacked you - Diane only asked you some point on questions because you are so vague about yourself.  I mean come on - no real picture for  your avatar and absolutely NO info on you at all on your profile.

So Mari - do not listen to everything.  This is the greatest group of people I have ever met in my life.  Feel free to read my profile (although it has not been updated in a long time) and if you have any questions just ask.

This is a great site no matter what some people think

I especially like how she started typing the post like a normal human being, then slid into her "country bumpkin" (thanks M! Love that term!).

Oh but when I askd my questions, nobody give me the time of day. I ahve a picture and I have my information on my profile. Do ya bother to check? Mari, dont have a picture.  ya all thought ya knew me and ya don't. Ya all cant accept anybodys thats different. I tried to be nice and I dint say nothin to scare nobody. I jus  told her to be careful. Aint no law against that. I answer  Diane C's questions. She jus judged me. Ya all did. I came here for support same as anyone else. Ya all do DRAMA with a capital D! Why dontcha give me a chance? I didt do nothin to nobody.
