Help! I am going bald!
All the surgeries I have had, they all took a little hair, but not until I developed thyroid problems did it start to fall out of my head. It started to get better, then came WLS, it was doing really good coming back, and not again it's falling out. When I am blowing it dry and all these hairs are flying around then I know I have a problem, and I can see it as my part if getting wider. Time to stop it from falling out again...more vitamins for me!
Good to chat, also, your pictures are amazing....you look great!
Hugs to you Elizabeth, Diane

Michelle:
I have had bald spots and thinning hair since I had my first kid. Nothing I did ever would fix it. I tried the shampoos, the creams, the yada yada yada. Until I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin twice a day. Within 4 weeks I felt new hair growth. My hair dresser whom I've used for years and years and years confirmed and was amazed. As was my doctor who has called me twice to get the name of the stuff.
It's cheap. Buy it at any Wal Mart for $7 for a bottle of 120 caps. excellent for your hair, skin and nails.

Hi MIchelle,
I noticed a lot of hair loss starting at around my 3rd month. It was shocking. I am lucky in that I have mega thick hair so while I notice, nobody else seems too. As I am going into my 6th month though, I've noticed less coming out at the end of a shower or on my brush. My doc told me to expect hair loss months 3-6.
Good luck! I hope you don't go bald :-)

Hi Michelle -
I too began noticing the hair loss just before the 3 mos. out. With my c-sections, hysterectomy and gallbladder it happened as well. I never took anything or bought special shampoos prior to WLS. I did however notice it much more with gallbladder because I was not able to eat for 1 month hooked up to machines and what not. However, once the loss stopped, my hair grew back fine and much quicker. I have always had very fine thin hair with some loss but the loss of hair I am having now compared to gallbladder is scary. The Biotin will not stop you from losing your hair, it will help you to grow your hair.
I had Deidre ask her instructors in Cosmetology as they should be updated with the latest products, etc.. Their advise to me was: Take your Biotin, use Nioxin and if you are still unhappy with the results, please make an appointment to see a dermatologist. That kind of threw me off, but alas, I have not invested $$ in Nioxin, I am noticing a receding hairline, but I also see the new hair growth. It is short and fine like a newborn baby.
When I sold Avon products, I had a lady that would purchase shampoo from me. It was shampoo for silver hair. Her hairdresser was very much in awe on how much her hair had grown and how quickly. Needless to say, the hairdresser purchased tons of the Advance Techniques shampoo from me and used it in her salon. I don't know if she still uses it, and I know that the Shampoo for Avon has changed a bit. Avon's shampoo is great and comparable to Pantene if you want to try, and it is on the cheaper side.
Anyway, your hair will grow back, and if not we can go shopping for wigs and have Deidre style them for us.
Talk with you soon.

I will say it again, do not buy into shampoos. Not all hairdressers are savy as to what happens, but shampoos do nothing for hairloss. It may change the consistency of the hair shaft and make you hair seem thicker, but it will not help with loss of hair because that comes from within, and has to do with your hair folicle. Shampoos only work on the shaft of the hair, no where else so save your money. Your best bet is do not color your hair, that will give you hair loss, it goes deep within the 2nd layer of your hair shaft and perms are worse, they actually penetate the 3rd and last layer of your hair, the cortex. That will cause breakage and hair loss. You need to treat hairloss from within, Remember your bodies are changing, your probably are not eating enough protein, I just spoke to a friend, and we were talking about her loss, she experienced NONE until she started not eating enough protein and her hair started to fall out, she immediately went back to eating her proteins 80-100 mg a day, Hairloss stopped. This all happened to her when she was 2 years plus out.
You have to expect some because of the meds you took while you were having surgery and being put under. Then you have changed your insides, malnutrition happens. You are not eating near the amounts of food, and if you don't take vitimin, not saying you people don't, malnutrition starts. Remember as I said earlier, if you are losing it while brushing your hair, more than likely it is just normal but when you start to plug up the shower drain, and hair will pulls out entwinded in your fingers and fly away when dry, you are having hair loss. I have watched my sister suffer badly from hairloss and she never had any weightloss problem nor thyroid. It's just happening. Remember people, your systems are changing....you had major surgery, you have changed your insides forever, and if you are losing hair now, don't expect it to be the last time, we have to constantly keep ontop of things with having this surgery. It isn't just for now, or next week, you made a lifelong decision.
