Went to see Dr. LePort today and he told me there is possible way for me to have surgery. He said my liver problems are because of me being fat. And that i should just get serious and go on a diet. I told him if i could do that i would have done it already. He said I don't know what to tell you but you need to get started  but i won't do WLS. I am so sad i haven't been this bad since my husband left. My heart is aching my whole life i have had the worst luck why should this be any different.

Hi Patsy,

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I know how much you wanted this, I do; we all do. What exactly did Dr. LePort say you have to do? And remember, you have beautiful kids and grandchildren who want you to live a long time, so don't give up yet. Maybe you could try a different type of program for a while. I know diets worked for me for a little while and maybe you could do one long enough to get you to surgery. Or does the doctor say no surgery ever?

If I can do anything, let me know. I will even attend Weigh****chers or another program with you if that would help.

Patsy,
I don't know your medical history or background; but what I can say is get a second opinion. I hate the fact that he dismissed you with just "go on a diet".  If it were that simple none of us would be here.  Don't give up... and don't give in!

Ok Patsy, this is where support comes in,  First of all, I want you to get the results of your biospy and then take them and see a liver specialist.  Now remember when I spoke with you on the phone hon, I too have liver disease from being overweight so it is not uncommon.  If you get clearance from a specialist to have surgery it can be done.  But that will be your first step.  Nancy has offered to go to a weight loss program with you.  I would also like you to come to the So Cal coffee, and there will be a bunch of us that will help you out in any way we can.  Just getting off 10 percent of your weight may help that liver enough.  I will call you later and find out exactly what is wrong with your liver.  DON'T give up and don't get depressed, now is when you stand up and FIGHT!!!!  We all have these hoops to jump through in life, and we are going to all help you get through this one,  You are not alone hon

Hugs, Diane

Your right i lost 30lbs, then he re-did my blood work for my liver came back in a good range then he did the surgery.. unless something else was on the results, but least he wouldn't take a chance on her health that's most important!! I got her in my prayers & good thoughts it's gonna work out!! I know I was quite heavier than her weighting around 380lbs!!

Patsy... what is wrong with your liver?

I've heard that a fatty liver shrinks with high protein intake... or, is there a bigger problem w/the liver? Did the biopsy show anything?

I wonder how the "band" would work for you... did you ask Dr. LePort about that possibility??

So sorry... and praying for you...

Patsy,

I am so sorry to hear that your surgeon won't do surgery on you. I agree with what a few others have said. You need to get a second opinion. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that it all works out for you and you can have the surgery done.

I'm so sorry Pasty..
But it happen to me I was suppose to have surgery in march of this year.. I had in lam-ens term fatty liver.. he explained to me that this increase my chances of having severe liver, and or kidney failure during surgery... It is not that you can't have it.. he will not risk your life.. I had to lose almost 30lbs come back get blood work for my liver to see if anything change.. the weightlose did reduce the enzymes that of my fatty liver, and if it also shrunk in size.. after the second blood work came back .. he said it was better , and I had a better chance of completing surgery with less complications.. I would rather have a doc to tell me the truth then to put you on a table.. and have the possibilities of not coming out okay. He also explained to me that how the liver sits blocks the view during surgery.. meaning they can cut something such as your, bile duct, poke holes in the intestines, and possible damage to the liver.. because when you have fatty liver.. it's so huge the doc can't predict the scenario lapo or open RYN. I know it's hard I was heart broken but in three months I lost 30lbs, I walked, and  I went on a meal replacement diet to get the weight off soon as possible then he did the surgery.. when i had my consult he stated that he will not do your surgery lap or open(RYN), if your BM1 over 50, fatty liver, blood work not acceptable, or severe heart complications, he stated that this will increase your ratio for death, or major complications that could lead to death.  Keeping you in my prayers

Patsy, as so many others have suggested, it's time for a second opinion. It sounds like this doctor is very conservative. That can sometimes be a good thing, but it can also prevent some patients from receiving the only possible effective treatment for their MO. As we all know only too well, the chances of a MO person losing and keeping off the weight are about 4%.  It's just like you told him: it you could do it, you would have already done it.
I know you are devastated right now, but please don't give up on your dreams.

I'm also sending you a pm.

Patsy,

Please don't give up.  As others have said, a second opinion is surely in order.  Diane is a fighter and if anyone knows how to get things done, she does.  Please allow her to help you and know, we're all here to help you with love and support in any way we can.  Please don't give up though, you still have options.

Hugs,
Barb
