Beef?
Hi Everyone
I was wondering if you could tell me when you could eat beef? I'm 3 months out and I thought you had to wait until 6 months. But recently I saw someone that was 4 weeks out and had a steak. Thanks

First thing you should check is your doctor's protocol. They are all different. Some allow dense proteins (steak) sooner then others. Mine was one who believed it was ok to try just about anything within a month of surgery. Just to take it slow.
I ate my first steak about 6 weeks out. I took very small bites and chewed and then chewed some more and then chewed it even further and ate very very slowly. It went down very easy for me. However, I found I was always someone who liked my steak cooked medium well to well done and I couldn't eat it like that anymore. I had to go to medium so it wasn't dried out. Chicken was a totally different story. It took me about 7 months to be able to eat chicken and then it had to be extremely moist. Ground beef never really agreed with me and while I can eat it now, 5 years out, hamburgers still cause a problem and I believe it is the fat content.
So, check with your doctor and what it was he told you. If he gave you no guidelines, then all you can do is try it. If it doesn't work for you, it will come back up. My other advice, try it and any new foods at home the first time. Throwing up in public bathrooms is nasty.

Throwing up in public bathrooms = been there, done that, hated it. How about a trash can in the middle of the mall because something poked back at me. I can have something 6 times in a row with absolutely no problems and then on the 7th try, Whammo. Eject. One thing that never disagrees with me is hamburger / taco meat, refried beans and cheese. So, out in public I usually stick with a tried and true meal.
Refrigerator Roulette. I gain weight now looking at food, but I still throw up on things I've eaten a million times. I just never know. It's so much fun. What's even more fun is if Mike and I decide to get sick at the same time. We had no choice but to put a second bathroom in the house for just those occassions. That's a hoot in itself. The sounds that come from our house truly scare the neighbors and that is saying alot as we live in San BernaGHETTO.

It's San Bernaghetto when I'm being nice. Most of the time it's San Burn-our-Ghetto...please. That's when the neighbors really get on my nerves, which is most of the time. I think it might be time to leave the hood because it's NOT such "wonderful day in the neighborhood". Mr. Rogers wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes.
My surgeon told us to wait until the 6th month to eat beef too. I have had a couple bits here and there of beef and it didn't bother me, but I have not had something dense like a steak yet. Right now I can't even imagine eating a steak yet. Ground beef seems OK as long as it's the leanest type, 94/6 otherwise I think the fat would be bothersome.
If you do decide to test yourself, I'd do it at home, not while you're out.
