Howdy,

I posted this on the main board, but didn't get much of a response.

Does anyone know if there's something bad about the Whole Foods 365 Whey Protein?

Naturally, I don't have the nutritional info for the stuff in front of me (I'm at work). I can't find anything on their website about it or through Google.

Does anyone know if this has the best kind of whey? What is the best kind of whey protein?

Any negatives?

The only one I can think of is that it comes with a little scoop.  Therefore, it's only 16 g of protein per scoop. But I could double up if necessary.

We're making a trip down to civilization tomorrow and I'm trying to determine if I'm gonna make the hubbie take me to Whole Foods to get some of their protein powder.

I like the taste of it better than any other I've tried. So, I assume there has to be something wrong with it. LOL!

Thanks.

Patti

I use a whey product for my drinks but it's from the vitamin shop.  As long as the carbs are lower than the protein, I use any items.  If it is one or two points lower I don't do it, but as a rule of thumb for me, low fat, low carbs and HIGH in protein, you should be ok.  Don't forget to count what you mix it with.

Sorry I don't have more info for you, but that is what I know.

From the Daily Plate, it says it has1 g fat, 2 g of carbs for 16 g of protein. However, there's nothing about the ingredients on Daily Plate.

I guess I'm wondering about whey isolate or concentrate or whatever. Like I said, I'm at work, so I don't have the can in front of me.

My hubby threw it away on Tuesday and Wednesday was trash day.

Thanks!!

I'm back again.....your question isolate or concentrate.  Doesn't matter.  Protein is protein.  I didn't even do whey protein.  My doctor has his patients on soy protein.  I NEVER did whey unless I was buying protein bars and even then, most of mine where soy.

Here is a good rule of thumb....high protein content (any protein), low fat, low carb, no more than 25 grams a serving.  It's all good.

I don't know the details with regard to that protein, however as Diane said, as long as protein is higher than carbs it's good.

However, with that being said, doubling your scoop is a waste of protein and money.  You can only absorb about 20 to 25 grams at a sitting.  Anything over that goes "out with the trash" if you know what I mean.  So 16 at a time is good.  You'll absorb it and then can have an additional shake later on if you want it.

Happy Shopping!!

Thanks.

I haven't doubled it up. I just didn't want to get a whole bunch of people saying their protein was better than mine because 1 scoop has more protein in it or whatever. Greater quantity isn't always good.

For me, the little scoop is perfect for my morning protein chai tea. The taste isn't overwhelmingly vanilla or protein -- just the right taste for me when I mix it with the tea and some ff milk.

I think I might even buy the chocolate to add to my collection.

Mixed in with tea or coffee is great. I like coffee, so I'd mix coffee with chocolate protein and sometimes a little SF Syrani Peppermint syrup.  It was delicious. I used to do that every morning or have a protein hot cocoa.

However, keep in mind you need to drink it all within about 30 minutes because the whey protein will start to break down after that in hot fluids, thereby losing it's effectiveness.

HMMMM.

Protein hot cocoa sounds real good. And I do have a bottle of SF peppermint syrup.

I have no problems getting it down in 30 minutes. I actually try to slow myself down a little to enjoy it more.

Thanks for the advice!!

I buy the hot cocoa online at www.ishophere.biz They have alot of products but I like their private label "Diet Health & Sports".  They are mostly all soy based but very very tasty.  But they have all kinds of other brands available as well.  Check it out, I found alot of things that worked.

I read an article stating that the Whey Isolate Protein is suppose to be better for us than just regular. I have not got anymore facts yet but I have always used the Isolate since the beginning.

I am still confused about the intake of protein at one time. I have been told that we can digest 40 grams at one time but like others have said, been told we can digest only 20 or less. I asked a nutrionist about this on another board and he has not heard of this and was looking into it.

Like everyone has stated, low or no carbs, low or no sugar and lots of protein you cannot go wrong.

Have a great day.........Rick
