Well I've been sick from the flu (not swine) for the last week and yesterday I started having stomach pain.  I went to the nut yesterday and he tells me he's gonna send me out for an ultrasound because I might have a hernia.  States from coughing forcefully and repetitively, I may have created a hernia.  WTF?  I've never heard of such a thing, have you?

Oh I have definitely heard of it.  My ex-husband had some lower abdominal surgery and then came down with a bad cold a couple months after.  Got a real bad cough.  Was almost on the verge of pneumonia.  Anyway, he was coughing like there is no tomorrow and felt something pull.  Let it go for a couple of months even though it hurt really bad.  Turned out he had a hernia and had to go have surgery to have it fixed.  It is not uncommon to get a hernia from heavy coughing.  You are using all your abdominal muscles and if you put too much strain, somethings got to give.

Sorry you are hurting.  Hope it turns out to just be a muscle pull.  Could be that too.

I have heard of people getting them from sneezing too much!  As long as those muscles are in a weakened conditioned you can get them doing anything strenuous to your body.  Just from being overweight Doug has a huge one, the doctor says, and I have never heard of this that it will go away if he loses weight!?!?!?  Want to talk about hernias, we can just talk to our own hernia Queen Becky!

WHAT...if he loses weight it will go AWAY.  Where did he get his medical degree from? Cracker Jack U.  It might not hurt as much, but once it's there it's not going away.  The only thing doctor's are good for is to give us drugs to put in our brownies.

If it is a hernia and you are walking hunched over, you need to go to the ER. I lived with hernias for 18 years and they only hurt when there is an issue. Yes, you can get a hernia from coughing!  I wouldn't mess around with it, hernias can be lived with but if they strangulate or you have a bowel obstruction, both are very dangerous and even more so for us WLSers.  It is not a laughing matter. I know about hernias trust me, I had 5 repaired 5 months ago and in 2 weeks I will have another one repaired.

Surgery was RNY 5/21/07...I can be found on Facebook: anewbecboo or Becky Reddick

Dr. Swartz can take care of this for you Myra.  Don't put off getting it taken care of!

Well i'm gonna give the office a call in the morning and request they scope me like Dr. Felix had suggestd as an option last Friday because I can't even get any liquids down.  I had an ultrasound last week and it seems that it is not a Hernia but that I may have done something to my intestine, kink, but Dr. Felix stated to know for sure he would have to do a scope.  I'm soooooo dehydrated, I'm taking care of this in the morning for sure!
