I'm Freezing
Hi Everyone -
Just wanted to see if anyone else is freezing since they're surgery?
Shortly after surgery I noticed that I was on the cooler side of body temperature. All I could think of was "COOL". Before surgery I was always hot, sweaty, and on the coldest day of the year I could be in flip flops & shorts.
Well now, lets say since Thanksgiving maybe, I am not just cold, I am down right FREEZING. This is usually only in the evenings. By 7pm I was in my nightgown. Not anymore. I stay fully clothed including thick slipper socks, slippers and as soon as I am done eating dinner, my jacket goes back on. There are times I grab my blanket and wrap it around myself as well while watching TV.
I called the surgeons office today to speak with Dr. Ali or the PA, no return call yet. I left a voice mail for my PCP and of course she called after 5 while I was out for my walk. I will call her 1st thing in the AM. At my last visit with PCP she cut one of my meds for blood pressure in half and I stopped taking one of the cholesterol meds all together. While at another appt. on Tuesday I ran upstairs to the PCP office to have my BP taken and it was 115/44. The nurse told me it was great.
I wish I could sleep with PJ bottoms but I just feel very claustrophobic. The same goes for socks. The other night however, I got up about 3 am and put on a pair of thick slipper socks to sleep with. I do have a heater and it works. My heater comes on everyday around 7 pm and the temp is set to 73, yet I am freezing. God help anyone in my house that complains it is too hot. My poor hubby who is asleep way before I go to bed gets such a shock when I come to bed. He is very warm blooded (thank goodness), so I snuggle up real close with my frozen hands under his shirt and my legs intertwined into his to try and get warm.
My PCP is just back from vacation so she had not read my blood work from last week. Hopefully when I talk with her tomorrow the blood work will shed some light as to why I am freezing. I take all my vitamins, & medications as directed, I just feel that something is off.
Have any of you experienced this? Just curious. I will talk with both the surgeon & PCP tomorrow and hope they can shed some light.
Good Night,
Annette

Annette,
Yep, you described me perfectly too. I am ALWAYS cold. I have heard this is common after WLS and remember as we move along the journey of weight loss, the fat insulation that was there before is no longer so it makes sense that we're always cold.
The other thing I've noticed is with the weight loss has come noise from my bones moving around, especially my neck, shoulders and ankles. I think there is not the amount of cushion between the bones that there used to be and so things need to realign and ligaments and tendons need to retract and readjust. I'm no doctor but that's my diagnosis and I'm sticking to it! LOL For once, let's blame something on weight loss instead of weight gain! LOL
Let us know what your doc or PCP says.
Hugs,
Barb

I bought a heated mattress pad with 2 controls (one for my side, one for baldy's) and a couple other heating pads. One for work. I flip them on and either sit on e'm or whatever. It's common.
This is totally normal. Your fat cells contain a lot of estrogen and you're burning that all off which causes some of the cold but you're normal. Just wear layers and adapt with the heating pads. OMG Iove my electric mattress pad!

Just adding my 2cents worth..invest in an electric blanket! I just replaced my old one (it was 11 years old LOL)...OMG what a difference!! I bought duel controls so hubby doesn't have to 'cook', as he puts it LOL I even went so far as to buy flannel sheets for winter...keeps things just a tad warmer and no 'cold' sheets to crawl into.
For day wear, I bought Danskin thermal tops....very light weight (and smooth texture vs Fruit of the Loom 'old fashion' thermals), wear them under my sweaters and pull overs. They really hold the body heat in while 'breathing' so you don't sweat.
Just a few pennies-worth of how I deal with freezing on a daily basis. LOL

Hi Annette,
I used to be the one that was always hot and felt sweaty. I would mumble to myself about the skinny girls at work that they needed to gain a few pounds so they wouldn't complain about being so cold, now I am with everyone else. Cold most of the time. I had to go and buy long sleeved shirts to go under my scrub tops, so I wouldn't freeze at work. Some days before I did that, I would be happy to have a patient on isolation(meaing I would have to go in the room to see them, with a blue plastic gown, gloves and mask), it would make me all nice and toasty. I never thought I would feel cold like this. I usually walk around my house with warm fuzzy slipper sock, a tshirt, warm fuzzy pj pants and a huge sweat shirt, plus a blanket on me when on the couch. As others have said, layers are going to be your friend.
Hugs Eileen
